.i have a couple JD's; i have had a JD1020 since @88 or so; its a gas burner, 38 pto hp; i bought a JD 2240 this spring, with a FEL; and have been trying to sell the 1020 ever since for $3500; and no takers; the hydraulics quit on the 2240 last wk-end; so i drained all 8 gallons of fluid; and cleaned the screen etc; its working so far; then i checked the altenator yesterday, its bad, while i was taking it off, i noticed the water pump was leaking, so i pulled the radiator etc to get to the pump, and noticed the radiator is messed up; so i have a radiator, altenator, water pump in my truck, waiting for the parts stores to open...i'm tempted to just trade both JD's in on a new 50hp tractor and be done with it..but tempted an having the money are two different things..the hydraulic pump was rebuilt @ 5 years ago, i sure hope cleaning the screen solved that problem!!!

heehaw, how well I know the feeling!/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif You have my sympathy.

And roysallis, once when things were bad, someone told me "Cheer up, things could be worse." So I cheered up and sure enough, things got worse./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

HeeHaw, like Bird said, How well I know that feeling! I can say, that this to will pass.
I had one summer that if it ran, it blew. One 12hp riding lawnmower, one 18hp garden tractor, one Ford 8n, one each tranny in 72 Chev P/U, datsun p/u engine, dodge omni engine, and my 76 Capri engine. I spent the summer rebuilding everything. It is wonderful having teenage kids! If you can afford them.

Kinda like when a roll bale of hay rolls out and keeps rolling across the road into some one yard, /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif and when you pick up the roll with the tractor you leave ruts /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif and than have to fill in the ruts and reseed...yep all you can do is shake your head. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Hang in there. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thomas, now I know why I never liked them round bales! I never could stack them things in the barn! Oldest brother rolled one into his pickup door, he wasn't too happy about that. He (I don't know the overall size of the bales) bales up some pretty large ones too!

well, i purchased a delco alt. for $55 to replace the bosch alt and regulator; i took the water pump to the JD dealer to put a rebuild kit in; $110; i took the radiator to the local shop, will get the results today, worse case is a new radiator for @ $220; another $38 for a new float for the fuel tank, $52 for the two air cleaners, plus whatever the new radiator hoses and new nylon bushings in the hyd. coupling cost, @ $10 for a fan belt; and tomorrow i'll start puttin it back together; the hydraulic problem still has me more concerned than anything, i can do the other repairs, but that one will have to go to the shop..my guess is the "wet" brakes or the hyd clutch for the pto is coming apart, and stopping up the hyd system..either one is beyond my repair abilities..thanks for the encouraging words..as i always say, 100 years from now we want even remember this problem..
