I had a college who freaked out on a flight from Detroit to Atlanta (his main flight was one from Atlanta to Frankfurt, and this was just his connecting flight). Anyway, he ended up getting off the flight in Atlanta, getting a rental car and driving all the way back to Michigan. He now refuses to fly, period.
People have phobias and for some, flying is one of them. I get the impression that the condition will not improve without affirmative action on the part of the individual and many are not even willing to confront the issue. Certainly in the example I gave, the individual concerned is fundamentally a low risk tolerance person. Will not date after his divorce, for example... The general nannification of society and depletion of any vestage of manhood in our education system means that this sort of limp wristed stuff is going to become more and more commonplace...
