The term "service animal" seems to be abused lately... which will make it harder for those who have legitimate needs for a trained animal. Ironically I had just read an article Misuse, misunderstanding create troublesome gray area in service dog law, before clicking on this thread.

The article also states that "emotional support animals" are not considered service animals... also that dogs and miniature horses qualify.

One time at the dentists office, I walked past a treatment room and there was a little old lady getting worked on with a small dog in her lap. On the one hand I can sympathize with someone who needs this support and who knows what her frailties are. But on the other, I don't want a dog in my dentists office -- plain and simple.

Another thought. Back in the 80's when pot bellied pigs were becoming a fad pet there was a case brought before the Fairfax County, VA court. You can't keep pigs in Fairfax County. A lady asserted that her pig was just like a dog and she enumerated a number of reasons. The judge quietly listened to her argument and then looked down and said. "its a pig, lets just leave it at that." Gotta love a moment of common sense in the courts.

My old job required me to fly way more than I liked, and I found that Smirnoff was better than any comfort pig. A couple quick doubles mixed with Coca Cola tended to smooth things out...in a few months I really didn't need the crutch any more.

By the way, I think we would all agree that an exception would apply for Oscar. May have to buy a couple of seats though.
