Wanted to use Rotella 5w40 synthetic in my Kubota M7040. Did the 50 hour service with Rotlella 15W40 would the next change be ok with the 5w40? What hour intervals do most people use? 300 seems a bit too long per manual and they show the filter every 600.

I'd contact the dealer. I know with my kioti the dealer said it was fine when I did the first oil change. I did mine at 25 hrs and plan to change to synthetic after the 50 hour service. As I couldn't justify the cost on 25hrs of use. I'm actually going to try to change all the fluids to synthetic.

You're fine to change to synthetic at any point. Years ago there was some poppy cock about valves not seating properly without dyno oil break in (that's another thing I have a tough time swallowing that oil is from dinosaurs but that's another topic) General motors runs synthetic right from the factory in Corvettes. So does Viper, all Caddies, Acura, Bently, all the Chrysler SRT's and a host of others.I change my oil every 100 hours but I do not run my tractor for long periods like a full day field work for 25 straight days. Its just easier for me to remember in 100 hr time increments.

I agree with arrow, you can change at anytime. I remember at one point Harley said that synthetic would cause problems if used before the engine had 5,000 miles on it - then they came out with their own synthetic and what do you know - those bikes now get synthetic from day one.

I'm running the oil that came with my tractor until the 50 hour service, just because I can't see the sense in throwing away good oil. But when I hit that mark (coming right up), I'm switching everything to synthetic.

Then I'll continue to do the service intervals recommended by Massey Ferguson, just with much better oil. The cost difference isn't really all that much, and especially in the winter, having an oil that flows even when very cold seems like a good thing,

I converted to 5w30 Mobil 1 at 13 hours. Have changed once/year since then.

For the next change, I plan to use the new 0w30 Mobil 1.

If you want the effects of full synthetic, convert right away, incl. oil filter. If you wait until later, it may take 2 oil changes to see the full increases in hp and reduction in fuel use.

I went with the Rotella 5W-40 at the 50 hr mark ( slightly before 50..but it might as well be 50 hours) There is never a reason to hesitate as long as you are switching from the base Kubota oil to something vastly superior and a much higher rated product.

There's no need to be wastefull with the product you are now using..so maybe ..?...run it for say 50 hrs and then make the switch to the 5W-40

Not to make this more confusing... But... Rotella SYN, can arguably be called a non-synthetic oil. its a Group III....

It is?
I was thinking of Rotella T at 100 hours, would that be OK on my BX2350?

When I was building high performance engines, we would start with a freshly honed block with new everything from top to bottom. We'd run the engines for 10 minutes at 3000-3500 rpm for cam break-in primarily. We'd then take off the oil pan and the catch magnet would be full of findings ( lighter findings would be caught by the filter) We'd clean out the rest of the pan, button her up put in fresh oil and filter and send her out. The first thing I do whenever I get a new vehicle, is change the oil and filter because I am not sure of factory start-up procedures or if they are changing oil after engine run in. It may be over-kill and I'm pretty sure it is but my vehicles get to over 250,000 miles w/out a hiccup. Some people change the oil every 10000 miles and their vehicles still do over 200000. This is a case where one is maybe better off not knowing what happens to a freshly assembled engine in the same way surgeons know never to eat certain stuff for what it does to the body and yet there are 88 year old people still eating hot-dogs and smoking Parodis.

Shell & Castrol sued for the right to call their oil full synthetic, even though it is a hydra cracked dino with a syn additive package.
