I agree. If fuel flow was a diagnosed issue, the first thing he should have looked at was the tank. In fact, that's the first place I would have looked before the dealer even got involved.
ME too, amazing they didn't eliminate the "simple" things first!

If you run a diesel out of fuel, it usually isnt as simple as just re-filling it and firing it up. There is normally a pretty lengthy process to bleed all the air out of the system and get it so it will run again.

Having that float around in the tank and blocking the outlet enough to kill the tractor, would be just like running out of fuel. And it shouldnt just "restart" at a later time without bleeding the system. Which normally involves cracking lines at the pump, and injectors until fuel starts squirting out, then tightening them back down.

I don't know if the B has the same fuel system as the BX, but I know on the BX there is some sort of self bleeding that happens. If you run out, you can just fill up, crank for a bit, and they start right up. I suspect the B is the same.

I've been able to "Catch" low fuel in time.

You have only an instant to react....

Nope. An obstruction in the tank is not 'running out of fuel', it is cutting off the fuel. Your tractor does that by itself every time it shuts down. Running out of fuel introduces air into the fuel system, which won't happen with an obstruction.

When your tractor shuts the fuel off to shut down, it is shutting it off at a different location.

If your tractor is equipped with a shutoff valve AT the tank, close it off and run the tractor til there is no more fuel in the lines and the tractor dies. (which would be the same thing as something obstructing the line inside the tank). It is going to take a bleed sequence to get it to restart. BTDT. Just the same as running out of fuel.

Ya'all, thanks. This is such good information: Now, I am just praying that the problem is resolved. I cannot change the past, or predict the future...but information is armor! I love the dialogue back and forth. By next week (if it drys out and doesn't snow too much) , I will be hooking up the tooth harrow and breaking up some manure! Hoo boy. Life is good.

Well, Dianne we wish you the best of luck with your work and your tractor. Please be sure to come back and let us know what happens with it either way. Stop by often.

Years ago I had diesel heavy truck that had a piece of corn stalk in the tank. It would die just like this tractor. Would generally restart after a few minutes. Never required bleeding. No air is introduced. The blockage simply overpowers the pumps ability.
