Well, I finally found the Engine Serial. I expected it to be stamped into the block -but no- it is just a tab on the injection pump gasket, covered by gasket sealant. After spraying some Blaster on it and careful sanding with emery cloth I could see the alpha-numeric.
D1503-LAN1945
I went to
Kubota Engine America - Compact Diesel Engines to id the model.
D = Cylinder Code for 3 CYL
15 = Displacement of 1500cc
03 = Kubota 03 Series
Makes sense...so far...
Now I went to
Kubota Engine America - Compact Diesel Engines to get the serial number identification. This is were it gets confusing...
Old Format
. 4-6 numbers that are sequential with no breaks for production month or year
New Format (starting 1997)
. Alpha-numeric (e.g. XJ5050 or 4J5050) with breaks for production month and year
FIRST DIGIT = PRODUCTION YEAR
SECOND DIGIT = PRODUCTION MONTH
-LAN1945 makes no sense - to me anyway. Any way I juggle the alpha-numeric I cannot get anything reasonable. I cannot believe my unit was built before 1997 - could it? Anyway they don't document the 'Old Format'...
If anyone can help I'd appreciate it...
