When was your house built?

Being extremely disappointed with current construction I designed and built my home in 2009 using my ideas of how things should be done. Among my methods were 12" thick concrete basement walls and 2x6 walls, as well as 2x12 rafters and overgenerous use of lvl's. I am extremely happy with the results and enjoy a good laugh when the weatherman predicts wind gusts in the 70mph range.

I did about the same when we built our house in 2005....I laugh at the weather all the time...it pays off ..no doubt about it.:)

Started in 2005, living in it but not done. My sisters house was built in the 1800's, lots of hand hewn beams inside floors, sawn lumber was expensive. Common approach in this area.

Have two, one on the west coast in Southern California built in 1968, and one I bought this year in my born State of Tennessee on 111 acres built in 2006 (My avatar Pic). The way I figure it, if I have either an earthquake or a tornado, I will have one or the other place to go to...lol. If I have both disasters at the same time, I have a 2005 28 FT Jayco GreyHawk Motorhome I could survive in. I'm really going to miss my first born... :D

There was a house in Ardmore, OK, that was built in 1922 and my grandparents bought it in 1943. After they died, my parents bought my Dad's sister's interest in it and lived in it for a few years. It was well kept up all that time. At one time, a brother and I re-did all the ceilings and another year, my wife and I painted all the interior. But then Dad sold it in the early '90s and it's sad to go by there now and see how it's deteriorated. It's still there, but looks like trash.

My current house was built in 1962. We did a large addition (doubled the size) in 1998. We the remodled the kitchen in 2005. All done now and really don't need a house this big anymore. :(

1920 with a complete demolishion and redo of everything that was not 1920.

What does that say about 1920?

1953 with 4 rooms. Two rooms added in '57. Three more in early 60's. Another around 1969. All by my father-in-law. My wife and I were married in 1979 and bought it in 1980. In 1992 we added an attached 2 car garage with great room above. In 2005 we added front and rear porches, then I redid a bunch of the older rooms, moving walls, stairs, and converting a bedroom to a big master bath.

It's kind of like that country song (Johnny Cash?) about what year his Cadillac is.

1987. My wife and I helped design it, I subbed most of the work out except for the painting and driveway and sidewalks. It is a frame house with 2X6 exterior walls. About 10 years ago replaced the masonite siding with Hardi plank. 3 years ago my sons and I put a metal roof on it. Last year we tore out two interior walls, gutted the kitchen and put in a nice big granite topped island and all new cabinets and bamboo floor. My sons and I did all of the work. We are still very happy with it.

1971, before building codes and inspections in my state. After I bought it in 1994, I realized the house had never been nailed together. I nailed off the siding, did a tear-off on the roof, nailed off the roof framing, the skip sheathing and added screwed down OSB. All told I used up 70 lbs. of 7d hot dipped galv box nails and 40 lbs. of deck screws. Most of the interior has been completely remodeled, so I tore up the underlayment and screwed down the sub-flooring to the beams, then screwed and glued new underlayment. No more squeaky floors! While I had the roof off, I found that there was a purlin about 6' in from the perimeter, and the insulators never got any insulation behind the purlin, so I filled that space up while I had the roof off. The old single pane aluminum sliders got replaced with vinyl/argon U.36 sliders, and the sliding patio door got replaced by a Pella French door. I added subfloor insulation, insulated all the water pipes and ductwork, swapped the forced air electric furnace for a heat pump, installed a new electrical service and generator transfer switch.

You tell me what year it was built. :)
