When's the best time to buy?

When's the best time to plant a tree? 20 yrs ago. Best time to buy a tractor? Tomorrow. Case in point. If you buy today, tomorrow they will all be 50% off, or blah, blah, blah. I think you will know when you've searched and done your homework, and you make the best deal you can feel good about.

It will not matter when you buy, someone will always have gotten a better deal.

Follow the market and shop for awhile til you familiarze yourself with the general market. Then make a decision.

Shoppins fun.:)

I am looking to by a new compact utility tractor...... any opinions from the forum members on when is the best time to buy? Spring; summer; fall; winter.... any specific month; day...etc..?

By the way - I am looking at a JD990 for use on 35 acres, and this will be my first tractor to own / operate.

Thanks

I'm not far away from you, just 35 miles south of Louisville Kentucky. I've bought a couple tractors from dealers in Indiana. About the only "advantage" I've ever found to any certain time of year has to do with tax time. KEntucky dealers pay taxes on inventory on their lot at midnight Dec 31st. Indiana pays at midnight, last day of Feb if memory serves correct. They're SLIGHTLY more willing to deal just before those deadlines.....SOMETIMES. But in general, a GOOD dealer is ready to deal anytime a customer walks through the door. The ones that have to have "artificial stimulation" to want to make a deal aren't motivated sellers in the first place. I want the saleman that wants EVERY deal.

The company I work for owns a 990 Deere. We use it to mow our property and do some finish grading on jobsites. It's quite a stout little tractor and quite a bargain compared to some others. It's a no frills basic tractor. In MY book, that's a good thing. I've never heard a 990 owner complain about any issues.

Maybe soon as the 0% financing will not last forever...

If you're buying outright then you might get a "deal" at the end of a model year.

Do your homework, get a good price from a dealer that you like, write the check. :)
