OOOppss, thanks Steve, I missed that. Must of had my mind somewhere else...

Since this is a "cut and extend the two ends" up into a switch in the cab, I'd cut the wire, solder on the extension wires (guess you could crimp a barrel on there, I just _hate_ hand crimping), then coat with Liquid Electric Tape, then slide a piece of heat shrink on there and then seal with self vulcanizing tape and cover with electrical tape (good stuff like Scotch 88, not the bargain basement stuff). Sounds like a lot of work, but I've had splices like this work under vehicles for over 10 years, and then cut them apart and the connection was squeaky clean.

I use the heatshrink with sealant inside of it, slightly more expensive but works very well.

Yup, that's good stuff. Force of habit and I buy shrink in 100 and 300 foot rolls so cost comes into play. Outside use is a small amount of what I do. It's got to be the irradiated PVC type, not that stuff that melts if you touch it with a soldering iron.
They also make filled shrink in butt-splice form (looks like a wire nut with a small opening in the bottom), but it seems that most of the time I want a clean in-line splice so I can move the wire around. I've seen filled wire nuts for outside use, but I think they are only for bigger (14 and 12 gauge) solid strand wires, not the smaller stuff in a tractor harness or multi-strand.

Sounds like the common theme here "good connection, then seal it". So I solder, not just twist wires. Then seal, not an open wire nut. I'm sure there are no solder solutions available, they would leave you with something to seal up via other means.

Related pet peeve: anyone who uses white nylon tie wraps that are exposed to sunlight.

Good tip looking for a similar connector. It is a water tight (rubber seal) 2 conductor connector so maybe an auto-store will have one. That would make it a very neat/professional job. If not I'll seal the crap out of it with liquid tape and put shrink tubing
over it.
