I several of these machette. They are Gerber but not the same ones mentioned before. Gerber Machete With Sheath, Knives, Gerber at Sportsman's Guide

They are extremly sharp have a saw back and durable. I keep them on the tractor mounted to the ROPS for quick use. You need to be careful with these as they are not toys but real tools!!!

Ohhhh yea best of all they are only $19.00

I looked at one of those yesterday at Sportsmans Wharehouse. It is called a "Gator". I have several gerber knives over the years, and one of their machined aluminum flashlights is in my pocket right now, and I have always liked their products. The one thing that struck me about that machete was that it had a really thin blade, like perhaps 1/16" or a little thicker. Good steel can make up for this, but I personally don't like too flexible a blade.

Second on the little Gerber "hook" brush trimmer. I have one of them AND a good Ontario Knife machette, but ever since I got the Gerber, it's the one I grab first, particularly for briars. The hook shape is excellent for that. Despite it's smaller size and weight, it is as effective as the larger machette, and much easier on the shoulders and back after a day of swinging it!

I've never needed to hold anything to cut with a machete - and would be worried about doing so.

Key is not to cut sideways like an ax, but down at a 45 degree angle or so. But watch your feet!

I can take a 1.5 inch pine sapling down in 1 or 2 strokes. Faster than an axe.

My favorite brush clearing tool remains the bush hog though!

Me, too, Ron. Of course, I had to check the dictionary to be sure I was spelling those words right.:D
