Where did the name come from

This will raise more questions than it will answer... Teg is short for my hashing name that was given to me by Sir Walter's Hash House Harriers (SWH3.com). "A drinking club with a running problem". Turns'Em Gay

When I was overseas as an Embassy Marine, I loved the Hash House Harriers. We had a small one in Cameroon, but there were three in Indonesia!!! It was a blast!!

The mens Harriers was the best, as we pretty much didn't have any rules or manners. The mixed and family groups were much more polite and kind of tame, but still fun. We had a small refrigerated cargo truck full of beer for the singing and insults at the end that never ran out of beer. We'd usualy stay out in the field until about midnight, and if we were off duty the next day, head to town to keep partying!!!!

I went on a few runs in San Francisco when I came home, but it wasn't the same. You just can't compare Golden Gate Park to the rice fields of Asia.

It's cool you were a Marine...I didn't know that. Also, I spent a little time in Indo back in 1999. I was in Surabaya. What a great place... Where were you in Indo? And when?

I was at the US Embassy in Jakarta from Dec 86 to May 88. If anybody knows who Paul Wolfowitz is, he was my boss back then. Real nice guy and family. We had a bar in the Marine House and sometimes he'd stop by to have a beer with us. He even invited my parents over to his house when they came to visit me, and it's one of thier biggest highlights. To have dinner with the US Ambassador at his house.

Awesome story! Yeah, I know who he is. Indo isn't the best place to be these days. The politics coupled with the dominant religious preference there makes it an uneasy place for Americans. Still, I had a great time there. What an interesting culture.

I remember this one fruit they had. The peel was like snake-skin in texture and look. I can't recall the name, but sure did like it.

I tried to "sneak" back a seed, but customs in Japan nabbed it and gave me some serious smackdown talk.

Do you know what the name of that fruit is? The peel was a greyish black and it looked just like snake skin.

We're pretty tame compaired to the Fayetteville hash for Fort Bragg (The Trash). Our hash does pretty good with the trails; swamps, briars and shiggy but our on after is lame (FUN but lame). Strange that cuts and bruises are are worn with pride "It's only a flesh wound" - Monty Python

Not really true. I have been working in Indonesia for some time and I don't think attitudes towards Americans have changed in the past 20 years. I was there in the late 80's (maybe EddieWalker checked my passport coming into the US Embassy ) and I have been there in the most religiously conservative area (Aceh) for a total of six or eight months out of the last two years. Very nice people. Some get frustrated with US policies (so do I) but in general the USA is well thought of. I recall a poll that showed sympathy for ***** Bin Laden was almost completely extinguished after the US Navy showed up in Aceh to help following the tsunami. There is no antipathy towards American people, just against some US policies (eg. Iraq).

Ben there done that to alot of these replys... 21 years in the Navy sent me to many places (got a US Passport early in my career and it opened many doors) I watch the adds for the new show 1000 places to visit before you die... Ben there done that.

Its short for "Steve's Midlife adventure". That's the vanity plate on my Harley. I could only have 5 letters. When I was on the phone signing up for the BBS, yes pre-internet, they said I had to have a signon name, max 8 characters. I also had the forementioned brain freeze and looked out the window and saw the bike. Just continued to use MIDLF for registrations. I add on a couple of numbers if I need a longer name. The only place I don't use it is on the cockatoo forums where I am MOC_BOY but that is a very long story.
