Aside from Brillion, Dunham, Deere and some of the older brand cultipackers, does anyone know what country is making the wheels for these new cultipackers? I am beginning to get feedback that the new wheels are breaking prematurely. Ken Sweet

If someone says China, I would believe it. :)
I gather from your post, that the brands mentioned are not breaking prematurely (does premature mean while in the lot or before field use? ).

The way some use them (behind ATV's, and going fast), I'm not surprised to hear of breakage however.

The older packers have been working hard for 20-30-40-50 years with little or no wheel breaking and I am hearing that packers made by companies that just added New cultipackers (in the last 3-5 years) to the products they manufacture are having castings break in the field after limited usage. It wouldn't have anything to do with what country they're being made in. Cheap is cheap, though it's unlikely it's America. Still, pleny of junk made right here. I would guess newer wheels are being made thinner to reduce cost. That, and exactly what beenthere mentioned, abuse. These older packers were used by farmers who took care of their stuff.

I am hearing that the breaking has to do with the density of the castings. The old line companies don't use import wheels. Ken Sweet

Porosity is a problem with cheap castings. I have a guess where many are being made, but it's just speculation. There are some poor foundries here too, and some are cutting prices to get in work. To make money they have to lower quality standards.

The only new ones I have seen are the ones from Agri-Supply. They look a little weak compared to the 20" Brillion. Any other sources? Can you buy the Brillions as a replacement part for a reasonable fee? The Tuf-Lines look pretty beefy also.

We are a dealer for Brillion and Tufline. These packers are bullit proof. I am sure they will sell individual wheels, however, the cost would be a shocker compared to the wheels on Agri supply. Ken Sweet

Another excellent example of ''getting what you paid for". Pay nothing, get crap from China that breaks.

Ken i would just call Agri-supply they are prolly the same as these new "cheaper" lines are using in their equiptment. They are prolly buying from the same importer or from Agri-supply themselves.

I doubt the lady that answers would know the country of origin and tech support would try to skirt the issue. I just may be skeptical :) Ken Sweet

I find my cultipacker wheels out in the garden. When the Chinese Cabbage opens up there is a cultipacker wheel!

I revitalized a double row Oliver packer last year. It was 8' wide and had a half dozen or more broken wheels on each row. I found that you could cut a chunk of thick wall conduit that had the same ID as the packer wheel holes (1.75 inch shaft) and tack that to the wheel's remaining fragments then fill the wheel with cement. I doubt that there is much "bad" that can happen to the wheels I did that to.

Didn't do all that way for time/cost/bother reasons but more importantly, I didn't think the wood bearings would like the extra 1000# of weight. Still had to cut the axles down some as they were worn to under 1 1/4" in some areas.

8 ft double roller may go way over 1000 #. We ship at 1500 including pallets. Ken Sweet

I hear reports of some companies that sell used cultipackers that are spreading rumours about imported wheels breaking.
