Where do you draw the line between a garden tractor and a CUT?

We obviously need a government agency to save us from being led astray here. Maybe the same agency that once defined a Rolls-Royce as a "subcompact" car. :laughing:

Why would anyone have the slightest concern with the terminology? It's a tool, so what it does and how it works are the only really important considerations.

If we couldn't bring up trivial subjects on a forum, TBN would have a lot less threads, now wouldn't it? (As would most internet forums and such)

for me, it would be. the frame. ya got your riding lawn mowers that set low to the ground. then ya got your tractors with a higher frame off the ground and wider stance in the tires.

then the implements, when ya see belt drive setups = riding lawn mower, when ya see PTO, 3pt hitch, hyd remotes to run equipment = tractor.

when implements cost you an arm and a leg, or almost as much as the unit = lawn mower, when the attachments (besides FEL and backhoe) are pocket change at times compared to new unit price = tractor.

when you have options of turf, R1, R4 tires = tractor. more so when r1 or r4 are primary installed by manufacture before they go out the door.

when the tractor looks like an oversize riding lawn mower, well ya. it be a riding lawn mower.

A CUT has diesel engine, 4wd, 3pt hitch, rear PTO-IMHO, and a foot of ground clearance.

Thanks for your support, Roy !! When I start a new thread I often try to word it in a manner that will generate controversy and create multiple viewpoints from several members. CompactTractorFan joined the discussion over at LMF and the original thread I started there set a one day record for the most responses from the members. Not all of them were about the GT/CUT issue, however.

I personally don't consider comparison between the two trivial, and I appreciate all the contributions. To me, a successful thread on any forum generates multiple points of view, and I learned a LOT of different opinions. Thanks to all !!!
