yep.. always makes me wonder why people posting something for sale will pull them soooo far away from the fence line.. and then lock the fence.

I'm sure the seller is worried about the item "walking off", so I see their point.

If I see something posted for sale and it's not behind a fence, I have no problem walking over to it. The one time I did see an item I was interested in (rear blade) behind a fence, I could see the seller's phone number (had to squint) so I called him from home, then went to check it out. No...didn't buy it...

I figure if I park in the open and go with empty hands to look at something with the 4SALE sign on it; nobody will suspect anything.

Of course I would not do it after dark, would you?

Also I driven up to and walked around houses with For Sale signs many times, sometimes just curious about the house, sometimes to complete my mental picture of the surrounding land. I figure if it is by appointment only, it should say so on the sign.

Maybe she wants it sold, but he wants to keep it. By putting it out there, he gets her off his back and gets to keep his tractor because nobody can come look at the darn thing.

Here's a funny story. One time I knew a guy with an old backhoe. It was ragged, but it did work. He told me he would sell it to me for $2500. I said I would take it and had to transfer some money to my bank account. I would pay him $150 to deliver the backhoe to my property about 60 miles away. When the money was transferred, I called him up to tell him I was ready. He said he was working the next couple of days, but would get it to me on the weekend. On Friday, my phone rang and it was his wife. She said, "Jim, that backhoe is mine. I paid for it, and he is trying to sell it, get the money, and run off with his girlfriend." Holy Smoke!!! I believed the woman because this guy kinda had a reputation. Oh well. . . I called him and just said I'd changed my mind. He was really mad, but there wasn't anything in writing, so he had no recourse.:D

Jinman, that's an excellent point. I could imagine similar situation - not that I would ever do that:D

Remember the days you could go to a car lot after hours? There'd always be a couple left unlocked and the only hassle would be another looker. :)
