Where to get a seal that is "no longer available"

/ Where to get a seal that is "no longer available" #11
You can match anything to anything and get what you want. Last time I had a difficult seal, I got the part dimensions and searched online for the bearing makers and seal makers. After narrowing it down over a day of searching, it turned out I had several choices of a common seals and bought them on line for a few dollars each. I was quoted many times that amount in earlier conversations.

Manufacturers don't like people buying parts other than from them so make it as difficult as they can to get those "proprietary looking" parts. They obfuscate and create phony and superseded numbers but in the end they buy a common seal from a regular maker. You just have to sort through the maze and you will find the parts.

Once, I found out a discontinued and obsolete seal that they wanted a lot of money for --before it was discontinued--was one of the oldest and most common seals made. I think I paid under $2 for them online. They were for a 60 year old implement.

You have to do the leg work yourself since no one else will have the same passion for success. No parts guy is going to look up a number that may require a number of back and forth calls to you for a $2 order. Also, few are going to stock the part in wait of your call. YOU find the part number yourself and things will work the best. All this is what works for me.
