Where to get HID lights

They're actually better than that. It's more like high noon on a clear day. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Add to that the fact that they'll dramatically outlast any other lighting source (I think I've read ten or twelve times as long)and you begin to understand the pricing.

Hmm, 10 * $20 halogens = $200

If you're only looking for a light, your math is right. Now, if you're looking for the same level of light it changes. If you do the math for how many halogens (and wiring and mounting) it takes to get the same kind of daylight level light coverage you will with HID lighting.

Conservatively, it's five halogens @ $20 ea. for the light level times ten for the replacements to equal the light life. That comes up with a $1,000 total. All of a sudden $400 isn't sounding all that bad.

I think the key is IF you really NEED that level of light for what you're doing. If you can get by with a couple halogens instead of one HID and won't miss the difference, go with halogens. If you truly need (or just really want) the daylight lighting level, then go with HID.

The difference on those is incredible. Nice picture of the wife, too. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
