Well, I'm a bit surprised but I could not find any reference to jacking up the tractor in the manual. Looking underneath, I'm afraid that wherever I put it ma cause damage to the hydro or worse have the tractor slip. The closest thing the manual had was a picture of a strap lifting the tractor (presumably from a shop crane).
Has anybody here jacked theirs up?, any do's and don’ts. The front axle seems like it could take the pressure point of a jack lifting it.
Thanks in advance... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Rogue,

I jacked the front of mine under the bracket that holds the front mower connection to change the front tire and it worked fine.

Rogue,

For the front I use the front most part of the fram rail. For the rear I use the hitch plate. There's probably a better location, because my way brings the whole back end off the ground thus leaving the whole deal a bit unstable.

Like you, I'm afraid to put the jack anwhere underneath the chassis. Too many moving parts around there.

Rogue:

I have changed out the rear tires and used the hitch. As others report, you get the whole thing in the air but if you loosen the lugs before lifting it is not a big deal. You might want to chock the front and use a jack stand under the frame just to make sure.

Good Luck!

I have used this point also for jack. I have wondered if there is any harm to using the FEL to raise the front end enough to change the tires. The backhoe is sure nice for raising the rear tires, but I've never been clear on whether to use the FEL for this.

Well, I did it today!
I went to sears and bought the jack and jack stands combo (GREAT deal this weekend, 3.5 ton set for $99, reg $149).
I then came home to find that I could not crack loose the bolts with my itty bitty 3/8" drive socket set. Back to sears to buy some 1/2 inch sockets and extenders (to reach in the deep wheels). I also bought a new torque wrench to get up to the 108" lbs rating. 1/2 inch drive tools are really cool. So I danced and sang a MAN song about how great I was because i had big tools /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif! My wife thinks I am insane. I think I am insane too... and so do I...me too.
Anyway.
Used the FEL to lift the front and slid the jack stand under the frame toward the side I was working.
On the rear I used a piece of wood to buffer between all the bolts and the jack, and I jacked right under the tongue bracket (where all the gold colored bolts are). It seemed plenty meaty there. I clipped the 3 point to the fixed mounts and put the jack stands under the 3 point arms. Not many other choices if you want to use jack stands on the BX. It worked great.

wheels: $270
tools to get them on: $175
result: the converstion of a very capable utility tractor in to a smooth powerfull and gentle on the lawn, mowing system.
Bagger will go on order this week.
BTW - I saw a bagger in the shop this week. W O W! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
What an awesome machine!
