Where to Purchase Chinese Dozers?

/ Where to Purchase Chinese Dozers? #21
I see NorthernTool doesn't sell them anymore, I guess that means something, but for the ********* in me, who does currently sell these Homier (no response), Nortrac, Yuchai type 30 dozers? I am in VA.

Thanks

Mike

I'm still seeing one at Northern Tool.
FREE SHIPPING — 30 HP NorTrac Bulldozer and Backhoe | Bulldozers | Northern Tool + Equipment

I seem to recall Northern offering both a "California compliant" and everywhere else dozer for a while, in both the straight dozer, and in the dozer-backhoe. I see they have dropped the dozer-backhoe (I read one review that mentioned with the weight of the hoe hanging off the backside, it just wasn't able to get a good bite with the front blade). I also recall seeing a "discontinued" label on the non-Ca model for a short time. Must be they've switched over exclusively to the just the Ca dozer model.

I have heard that Yuchai is being privatized. We are in the premilminary stages of sourcing a 40HP slightly heavier Dozer from China. Something closer to the Mitsubishi or Komatsu gray market dozers. Needless to say, the current economy does not warrant a huge stocking order at this time. I have been told Yuchai can supply us with dozers. This should probably be in another thread, but I would love to get some feedback on what to imporove on the Guilin/Yuchai dozer, this may be a good opertunity to tweak the specs a little.

Um, how much time do you have? :)

Is the 40Hp dozer the YCT406 that they discontinued some time back?

More time than money, but not a lot of either I'm afraid.

Over the last 6 or 7 years I have asked for a larger tracked tractor but was always told not possible. Probably because I only wanted to buy 3 or 4 not 3 or 4 hundred "sets".

I have not seen specs on the YCT406 machine, but expect it had the same chassis as teh 30hp tractors with a larger engine. I was hoping for a machine closer to a BD2, still small enough to pull without CDL (trailer under 10,000lbs GVW). but a little more capable than the 6600lb 30/35HP Yuchai machine.

Some of the things I would like to see is a hydraulic reverse that does not take a second or 5 to change direction. I"m not sure a hydraulic drive might not be possible, similar to a skid steer.

One thing that would be nice is standard JIC fittings. they are hard to procure in China, it is hard for chinese manufacturers to import anything. Perhaps final assembly could be done in the US. I suspect there may be some excess foundry capacity available here (if they havent all shut down yet anyway).

This is not really the place to do this, but I just though I'd throw it out there. I think there is a a market for this type of product in the USA, that is why you see so many Mitsubishi and Komatsu gray market dozers here. I would be interested to correspond by email or PM.

You don't need a CDL just because the trailer is over 10k.

The whole combo cannot exceed 25,999 lbs. GCW rating. Over that you need a CDL with the appropriate endorsements.
My truck is 11,000 lbs GVW, and my trailer is a 14,000 lb. capacity licensed at 12,000 lbs. GVW.

Not necessarily. You can have a combination of 36k and still be under CDL.

Silly me. I was referring to Washington State Laws.

Personally, I wouldn't trust just any good 'ol person with 18 tons of rolling stock on the same road with me unless they had a clue as to what they's a doin', and I don't care if they grew up on rural property or not. Licensing attempts to instill knowledge and competence. Also, I would like to see competency tests for travel trailers and motor homes. Too many morons with lots of money.

So was I. ;)

Can you show where it says you have to have a CDL for anything over 25,999# when pulling trailer?

Boy, I'll second that motion, Bob! I've nearly been killed a few times by nimrods with their motor homes, 5th wheel trailers and assorted other rolling stock that they have no idea how to control. I had a CDL back when it wasn't even required for what I was driving (3-axle crane truck), just because I wanted to take the cert course and get some knowledge. I'm convinced that some of what I learned during that course saved my bacon more than once over the years since then.

They're called the Laws of Physics for a reason - they're simply not optional. If Murphy don't get ya, then Newton will, and Darwin takes the pot.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that some certs are pretty much of a joke. F'rinstance, I'm "certified" as a forklift operator. Big deal - only means I sat through a short course and passed a minimal test on not backing over little old ladies in wheelchairs. Doesn't mean dick about whether or not I actually know how to load and carry without tipping or dropping, or even that I know enough not to run an IC lift in an enclosed warehouse until I turn bright red and die. But it makes the insurance carrier feel all warm and fuzzy, so I have it. And, I didn't even have to pee in a jar for it! Heck of a deal.

Cert courses written for professionals by professionals tend to be pretty good as a rule, while those written by lawmakers for insurance carriers tend to be pretty much worthless in my view. But with everybody suing everybody else all the time, we're gonna see more and more of the latter type until you need to have certs just to take your morning constitutional. Sheryl Crow will probably write that one.
