Tractor
Farmtrac 300 dtc
IMAG0462[1].jpgIMAG0463[1].jpgI have a broken shift fork in the back of this transmission so I have to remove it. Can I split it at the back where the two transmissions come together, where the cover is removed or do I have to split it at the engine as well?. I just split it last week to put a clutch in it and that was a blast. It's a Farmtrac DT300 or a Montana 3040 or an LS c3030, all the same.

Got a little further on it today. I found a large nut that backed of a gear and a broken shift fork on the front/ reverse shift railIMAG0473[1].jpg. Also the reverse gear syncros were eaten away as well as 1/2 of the reverse gear itself.Apparently there was a lot going on in this gearbox.IMAG0472[1].jpgIMAG0466[1].jpg
It looks like I have to split it in both places this time to get the gears out.

Yeah, that calls for a full teardown, bummer. Do you think the backed-off but was the cause? Wasn't it staked or wired? Best luck.

I couldn't make out the broken shift fork, in the first bottom picture, if that's the rear gear syncro, the back corners do look knocked off. What do you think would cause a shifting fork to break and gear damage?
I can picture a 100 parts being taking out, bolts, gears and the very important shims and where they go, hope you have a shop manual or something to go by, good luck.
