Where to start with air bags?

I have had firestons on my 91 for 12 years and airlift on my 08 since new. Both are still working as good as new. I just run the lines to the rear bumper. Takes about 2 minutes to adjust the pressure. But, the auto systems as noted above would be sweet.

Being able to adjust from in the cab, and on the go is nice... No one asked what it costs..:) and I can't remember, but the compressor and tank was$200+. but after a couple of years, I wouldn't change.

Been following this and wanted to add that Airlift currently is running a 50.00 rebate each on their bag systems and on board air control systems. I actually just ordered a LoadLifter Ultimate 5000's for my truck. Apparently they come with an internal jounce bumper so that you do not have to be concerned about running with air in the bags while unloaded. Best prices I've found currently are on Amazon.

Even with jounce bumpers you should run with air in the bags. It will keep the bag from 'sucking in' and possibly pinching.

I use Helwig air bags with an onboard Viair compressor on my 99 F250. Changed the regular bed to a flat dump bed, added about 600lbs, needed some help. Also added a 2 gal air tank, so I can inflate tires or use air for whatever I need. Works good to level load, either in the bed or trailers. Since I can raise and lower the rear of the truck, sometimes I can actually hook up to trailers without getting out but once. Rearview camera lets me see and watch the ball into the hitch. Very helpful on unlevel areas. Air bags were bolt on, compressor and tank took some brackets/bolts/welding, but no big deal.

I also have the Helwig setup on mine. Like cmyoung said they are easy to install with no drilling required. I mounted the compressor above the spare tire and switch in the glove box. The bags are made by Continental tire. I had the Firestone's on my previous truck and liked them but I didn't have the on-board compressor. My 5th wheel pin is around 2500 and 30 psi seems to work perfectly.

You're right. FedEx dropped the bags off this morning and I had the opportunity to read the instructions. They basically said you can run without any pressure if you have the bumpers if necessary, but they advise that 5psi min is good practice.

Be advised that it takes almost no time to pressurise these bags. So don't put air to it like you would a tire, especially without a regulator.
