Where to stay in Nashville

We have stayed at the Sheraton Downtown and at the Renaissance downtown - both are a little bit of a walk (six or eight blocks) from downtown where all the clubs are, as well as Bridgestone arena for concerts, hockey games, etc. or maybe a touch further to LP field where Titans play.

If we want to shop, its Cool Springs area; Opryland Hotel to walk around and enjoy a really amazing place; downtown when go to Sporting Events or Concerts, or to venture out to the clubs.

Union Station (Westin Hotel) is pretty amazing too. Its the old train station, turned into a hotel. It is kinda pricey, but its where I got engaged, so for special occasions, its probably worth it.

Good luck!

If you are looking for a pretty cheap yet pretty nice deal, I've had good luck with the Holiday Inn Express by the airport. We've stayed there several times - we've always used Hotwire.com to book the room, and it has always been under $40/night.

The only problem with Hotwire is that you don't know what hotel you stay in for sure until after you book. However, we've done it four times and it's always been the same Holiday Inn Express. And of course, when I say a nice hotel, it's in this perspective: safe area, plenty of parking, clean rooms, clean overall hotel, and a very nice included hot breakfast. It's nowhere on par with the Opryland hotel, but you're only about 30 minutes from anywhere in Nashville, plus you're close to Murfreesboro (sp?) if you wanted to check that out. If you're looking for more stuff in walking distance, I would stay closer to downtown, but if the hotel is just a "base-of-operations", then I really like that one (for the money, anyway).

Good luck and take care.

There are some hotels in the airport area, Opryland, some downtown and some out at Cool Springs. The airport hotels---some are newer and one I can think of is pretty old.

I haven't heard anything about the Opryland hotel since it reopened. Opry Mills is still closed except for the Bass Pro shop.

Avoid North Nashville.

Guess it depends on what you are looking for, what you want to do while you're there and how much you are willing to drive. Getting around without a car isn't so easy.

Thanks for the info. So far, my wife is looking at the Brentwood area. The Gaylord Opryland was pretty pricey, and we are traveling with another couple and we need to check with them if the cost difference is worth it.

It also looks like there are a bunch of hotels just to the north of the Opryland hotel. But it seems like there are some pretty major roads between those hotels and the Opry and almost seems like driving is required. I guess I was picturing that we would be able to explore the area on foot from the hotel. I guess if we are driving, it doesn't matter where we stay.

Like I said in my first post, I was picturing the ability to walk out of the hotel, down the street to a restaurant, grab a bite to eat, have some drinks, listen to music, etc. and walk home. It seems like now I will be driving, which affects the adult beverage content of the evening....

Nashville is pretty much a drive to where you want to be sort of place. Used to call it the 15 minute city because you could literally drive from one part of town to another in 15 minutes. Those days are long gone. You can stay in Brentwood and be downtown in 15-20 minutes unless it's rush hour.

I don't keep up with what there is to do in Nashville anymore. There's a publication called the Nashville Scene that covers some of it, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it is comprehensive or totally representative of what there is to do. Nashville Scene

2many,
Thanks for the link. It has a lot of ideas of things to do. The music search section will be very helpful.

For the last two years we have stayed at the doubletree downtown for fanfest. It was a little pricey but well worth it. We could walk to everything. I really love that town and the people.

I never had one problem but I was a fly in and cab kinda guy. Very nice accommodations.

Make sure you see the hall of fame. It was the Williams family exhibit when I was there both times. Awesome!!!!! And of course you gotta go to Tootsies and have a beer. Have a blast!!!!!

Hi all,
We just got back from our long weekend in Tennesee. Thanks for all the help. We had a great time, and plan to go back again.

We ended up staying south of the city in Brentwood. It turned out to be a good location for us. We arrived on Friday, met up with our friends and checked in to the Holiday Inn Express. It was overcast with rain expected so we went to the Gaylord Opryland to check that out. What an impressive resort. With the atrium and indoor gardens it was like being outside while the weather was not good outside. We had lunch there and sat "outside". We went to the Grand Ole Opry that evening and enjoyed that, followed by dinner at the Gaylord. (Then we were off to our "meager" Holiday Inn Express for the night...;) )The next day went to the Belle Meade Plantation, Parthenon, and then down town to the Ryman theater area.

On Sunday the weather got nice, but we were off to Gatlinburg for a couple of nights, the Smokies were beautiful and spring is in full force. The warm weather was great and seeing everything green and trees in full leaf at the lower elevations. Tuesday drove home, and were welcomed by much cooler Western New York weather...

A short get away, and a bit of driving, but well worth it!

Well, on behalf of everyone here on TBN, thank you for following up on the thread and letting everyone know how your visit there went!! If only everyone would do the same and provide feedback afterwards, it would probably encourage others to respond to the next thread requesting input on a destination.

And more importantly...you had a SAFE TRIP there and back...
