Where to Store Tractor and Attachments:

I just purchased a BX2350, 60" MMM, Grass Catcher, and FEL. I went from a riding lawn mower that was 3.5'x5' to a Kubota that is 14'x6'6" including attachments. I had to move my car out of the garage to fit the tractor inside. Now I have a two car garage with no cars inside. There's also a snowblower, chipper, tiller, generator, and 2 carts in the garage. Why can't I get rid of anything? Oh, the Honda riding lawn mower is still in there too. I'd sell it if I could get parts to fix it. I need a muffler that has been on back order for a month now.

I started looking at sheds, but even with a 18'x10' shed all I would be able to get in there is the Kubota, which would be a tight fit. This tractor purchase is getting expensive.

Where do you store all your equipment? Do you store anything outside? The FEL takes up a lot or room, especially when it is off the tractor. I wish I could get that out of the garage.

The riding mower will eventually go, and maybe one of the carts, but I love my chipper/shredder and tiller, how can I part with them.

Help!

Ken....

I am having built a 36' x 24' pole barn to solve that dilema. The barn will have one 12' x 24' bay for the tractor, one 12' x 24' bay for hay and 1 12' x 24' bay to be used as a horse run-in.

This will be in addition to my 12' x 18 ft' shed, that currently houses the lawn tractor, tiller, et all.

My goal is for my 2 car garage to actually house 2 cars, as it does:)

I must be thankful. I actually have 1 car in the 2-two car garage. Have to be careful of the MMM deck and BB stored down the center aisle, though. My plan is to purchase a two car garage package from local Big Box store and have the plan altered to have a single 7' X 7' garage door in the center solely for tractor implements parked in roundhouse fashion.:D

i wouldn't store the tractor outside at all. they retain their value, so no point in degrading it over time. in 10 years your cars won't be worth anything (you probably won't have them) but your tractor will retain much of it's value.

not sure how your garage is set up but maybe you could entertain the idea of building some kind of ceiling mounted storage for the FEL? granted it would need to be beefy but overhead space isn't used anyway, would be worth it if you could get it to work. kind of like the city...there's no space left - so build up!

since i'm such a nice guy, i'd love to help you out.... SELL ME YOUR TILLER!!!

Ken O,

I don't know what your zoning or building codes are but I erected a 10' x 20' vinyl shelter at my place to store my Kubota and attachements. I leave the box scraper outside underneath my deck and put the trac vac and sprayer along with misc lawn & garden in the vinyl shelter. I leave my fel and rear blade on after mowing season to plow snow. The mower deck I'm going to store in the garage this year as it needs some tlc but usually it goes in the shelter also. They run $200-$300 in most areas and take about 1/2 day to put up. The only downside is with a heavy snow you'll need to clear off the top of the shelter as they won't support a lot of weight. I just take a shop broom and hit the top a few times and that takes care of the snow problem. Hope this helps.

The least expensive option is to attach a car port onto the side or back of your garage. It can be done to match the appearance of the garage so as to look like it was original and pleasing.

You can match the roof line or lessen the pitch somewhat. I have seen it done both ways, and it has looked quite nice. It doesn't necessarily require a back wall and/or a front door. Very few have a front door and many keep the back open for easy access to the multiple items stored inside. You can extend the drip line far enough out so as to use only spaced posts as the outside support wall. [see attached image]

You can find MANY of these attached to barns throughout NH. And, most have farm equipment tucked inside to keep them out of the weather - especially sun and snow. I have seen some used as horse stalls where the horse cannot exit the front [it's gated], but it has the freedom to access its pasture through the open back.

Based on your garage description, this addition won't store everything, but it will certainly reduce the burden by quite a bit.

Ken,

I am putting in a pole barn/garage. It is 24 by 36. The main part is 24 by 24 2 stall garage with a loft the same size as the bottom. The side part attached that is 12 by 24(2 open stalls) for all the impliments or even the tractor. I figure this will give me more than enough room to store everything I want to store now and in the future. Also, I think it will look real nice.

The "equipment shelter" shown in Subway's drawing is the idea that I was describing. That particular shelter is, structurally, more significant, but they both offer the same additional, dry storage.

Subway, that's a very nice looking building.

[Q] Will you lay it on a cement slab and cement foundation?
[Q] What is your anticipated cost for a completed project?

[Q] What is the door height for each equipment shelter?

---------

The Home Depot sells snap together, modular buildings in varying sizes. Other places do as well. Some are quite large and many include a garage door. They don't look quite as nice as Subway's drawing, but they're quite impressive for their cost.

I am sure we all agree that the Kubota investment definitely warrants dry storage as do the many attachments. Cost, permits, and zoning will certainly dictate which option to use.

*It won't work /you will never have enough room and will always need another stall or two.

I have an oversized 30x52 4 stall garage a 22X76 6 stall pole building and a 22x20 2 stall carport and I'm always a stall or two short.
