Where does everyone hook to/or chain to there rear of the 4xxx tractor for trailering.

I use to binders in the front, hook to the frame/bumper.

Before on the rear, I used to binders and hooked the chains to the 3pt arms, where the lift links are. The dealer actually shipped it this way also.

Also I usually have a brush hog attached....

I don't see any other 'safe' place to chain to?
I wish JD would place some hooks on the rear to trailer it.

Thanks,
John

Put a clevis on the piece below the lift arms where trailer/ball hitch can be installed...I cannot think what the proper term for this is,other than it is where I have the clevis installed on mine,I just run the chain through it( the clevis ).

I use racheting nylon straps and in the rear run it up and in front of the ROPS, behind the seat and over the fenders. I think that a high attachment point helps keep the tractor down and it doesn't bounce at all.

I don't recall anyone else ever mention using the ROPS as a tiedown. It should be plenty strong.

I put a 5000lbs 2" ball on the hitch and shortened the hitch for more strength and it is even out of the way for the back hoe. I wrap a chain around it, boom your done. in the front I run the chain around the front weight bracket (frame).

Won't that break the fenders or atleast deform them?
W/o an attachment on I chain thru a clevice or ball on drawbar .
W/ an attachment on I chain over the 3 PT arms at the pins
and pull against the top link tower.
This holds the attachment down also.

"Drawbar" was the word Steel Wheels was looking for. I use the same method myself except when the backhoe is on. In that case I just pin the clevis through the hole where the drawbar attaches to the rear end.

I like havis a clevis on the drawbar with a chain going all the way through it. Minnesota has this code that you are actually suppose to have 4 different complete ties. Meaning you can't run the chain through the clevis but two chains just to the clevis. If is kind of a dumb code and I am not sure how many police would catch it. I did get it on our Bobcat back hoe though. The chain went through the clevis and we got a warning for it.

I took some of my steel hauler chains 3/8 x 20' hi test
and cut in half then put grab hooks on the cut end.
Works good for small stuff and my big hoe plus lite to
carry.

I have had the pin in the clevis come out and also the clevis bend forcing the pin out (all had a spring wire clip holding the clevis pin in) ... so what I do now goes back to the orginal method I've used of the 2" trailer ball in the draw bar and pass the chain around it ... I still like the clevis and continue to watch for a different pinning method... maybe just use a bolt and nut as a pin ...

I have never had that problem, but your right, it could happen. I do have the availability to tie into the brackets that hold the drawbar in place or where it allows the drawbar to move from side to side. I just need to get another couple of chains. Like I said before, Minnesota the clevis idea is not acceptable. If pulled over again by one of them Highway vehicle inspections I think I would get a ticket.
