In my area of Michigan they put a gas well about every 80 acres across the top of the Mitten in an arc from east to west. Most of the land mineral rights are owned by the state, so all they had to do was pay you fair market value for any trees they had to cut down, and pretty much put the wells where they wanted to. They would work with you some, as far as gates and maybe where the lines run from the individual wells to the main feeders. They don't allow farming/planting trees/building on their right away after the line is put in, and that goes for the well access roads, too. You can walk across/drive/mow across the gas line.... but that is about it.... When they put the well in they clear about one square acre of woods, then put the well in. I notice that the farmers plow closer to the wells than these one acre wood spots, so they must be allowed to so they don't loose so much farm land....
