Which 15" Tire Trailer is Better??

Not trying to change the subject to much, i am having a trailer built and found out today what brand of tires they installing on the trailer, now i am having 12K axles installed, tires are Trailfinder. St 235 80 16 radial, any body have good luck or bad luck with these tires, hope they are not the worst on the market, i know there not the best, do to i can buy the tire and rim for $165.00. Thanks guys.

I have seen that brand on a lot of trailers and not heard anything too bad. Remember that age, dry rot, and tire pressure are the biggest killers of trailer tires so maintain them and plan on replacing every 5 years no matter the miles and you will be money ahead. Those who don't end up with ripped up fenders, damaged trailers, and blow outs on Sundays when its 100 deg. Don' ask me how I know.:thumbsup: By the way I also now put a new battery in everything I own after 36 months. In the long run I am money ahead and no frustration or worrying about the little lady stranded out. Again don't ask me how I know.

I remember reading about replacing trailer tires every 3-5 years, but I store the trailer inside a barn when i am not using it, so that will keep the sun off of the tires, that way i should get 5 years out of them, I guess one of the hardest things on tires is pulling it around the hay fields, there not as smooth as roads, and they have alot of rutts. Rolled a few tires off the rim that way. And thats when i put the biggest load on the trailer, from the field to the barn since its not going on the highway. Have loaded 3 rolls high before. Like i said, from field to barn.

I keep all my stuff in the barn also. My last set of Marathons on my car hauler got just over 2 years. They were junk. The first set that came on the trailer got 5 years. My boats get 4-5 years and are stored indoors also.

Does parking a trailer outdoors on soil versus jacking it up to set on blocks make any differance in tire deterioration? Since my trailer isn't used that often, I go to the trouble, sometimes, to lift it and set it on concrete blocks. For the side that catches the sun, I cover the tires with a piece of plywood.

Covering is good. After 50 years + I think dirt is great for tires especially bias.

Ive been told that the continuous outer edge/tread of rubber on the tire adds significant lateral strength to the tire especially under high load.

which is why you see most semi tires with a continuous outer tread

The reason is dirt does not put as much force on a tire in one place. After freezing and thawing all winter I see tires leave 1-3" depressions in the spring when moved and they are never flat depressions.

It is all that uncommon to see farm truck tires still in use that are 30-40 years old and set on dirt all of those years. The 265 MF tires are 34 years old and never have been parked on a hard surface but dirt or gravel. The tread is like new but can not stay the same about the sidewalls.

pilot, batteries are not what they use to be they last a long time now my last 2 batteries in my vehicles have lasted 6 years. I have had excellent success on walmart bateries. The one in my ranger has been there since i got it 5 years ago and it was a year or 2 then. Its getting weak in the cold it is slow but cranks for the last 2 winters this the worst. It use to be my daily driver up till a yr ago, now i only use it about once a week, to haul trash or other small things that i dont need my big chevy k10 for. (ranger is a 1990 )

I do not get that lucky. My last set of batteries lasted me 3 seasons and 2 weekends in my boat then left me stranded. In the last car I owned I got about 4 years out of my battery. It stranded me in a small town on a Sunday Night. Just not worth it to me to wait till I am stranded. I just replace every 3 years now from the lessons I have learned. By the way I use Deka and Exide Batteries.
