2013 LS U5030
I've just recently bought a LS U5030 w/fel and really like it so far just need a cutter. I've narrowed my choices between a Bush Hog BH 26 and a Land Pride RCR 2672 or RCF 2772. All are 6' cutters and built similar except the RCR 2672 has the framework on the top of the deck vs underneath. Anyone have a preference?

Having a smooth under deck is nice to prevent clogging of material and even damage from flying debris such as random rocks...old bed frames, truck wheels and all those sorts of things hiding in the brush. However I think either one would be fantastic. Personally I might lean towards the BH simply because my local BH dealer is excellent and BH has a stand up product.

I agree. Some people like the smooth top like the Bush Hog has, but it's a lot easier to clean the top of the deck than it is the underside of it. My Rhino 172 has the smooth under deck, and that's one of the reasons I picked it.

Either would be really nice. I think the smooth top is better if it's going to be outside, so water, leaves, and grass won't get stuck, and turn into rust incubators. Other than that, the smooth underside is nice for keeping it clean.

I'm too frugal to buy new rotary cutters, but I'm running a 6' Rhino SE6 (version before the current 172) and I'm already considering adding a 7' cutter (I'd keep the 6' as backup). My LS is a lot less machine than yours, and it barely knows the six footer is there, and it's a pretty heavy unit for a 6' model

Your smart to be looking at the (true) medium duty cutters and not the lighter models of BH and LP's lines. I think you, or anyone else for that matter, would be very happy with either mower. I've always been overly happy with my heavy duty Land Pride equipment, but never had one of their mowers, however I'd be more than comfortable purchasing one.

BH has an incredible reputation (especially on here and I think we're all more critical than most ) so that must mean something. I'm not sure which one I'd go with myself at this point, either would be great.

I agree, either would be fine, I chose the LP RCR2672 and have been very happy with it, I prefer the smooth underside for ease of cleaning and use a leaf blower to clean the top, I store all our equipment under cover. Bush Hog has a good reputation, but I have no recent experience with them. We also own a Woods 10' pull type we like.

Good luck, either way you go you will have a good cutter.

Smooth bottom allows easier cleaning. I also use compressed air to blow off debris on the top.

Thanks for the help. Think I'm going with the Land Pride RCR 2672 for the smooth under deck.

Ok. I just learned something. I thought the smooth tops were also smooth bottom with frame between the decks. Although I have never looked at any I guess I will need too.

The deck has to be braced because of the torque of the gear box and stump jumper. They can either be braced on top or bottom of the deck.
