i do not have the ability to check out either the 447 or 448 for my 3320. the spec sheet on the JD sight leaves a lot of unanswered questions. any advice? clearly the 448 is bigger, is it worth the extra 1500? i see the 447 has some mention of a quick attach rockshaft assist...nothing on the 448? is the 448 harder to put on or does it attach in a different way due to it's larger capacity? thank you guys

The 448 attaches with the rockshaft just as the 447 does. The 448 is alot more hoe. For me it was worth the extra money. It is much more robust than the 447. I had the chance to compare side by side and the 447 looks like a toy compared to the 448. As an added bonus if you ever decide to step up to a 4000 series the 448 will also fit.

I can remember when I was looking at buying my tractor years ago. I had already shopped the JD's and new I couldn't go wrong but felt I needed to check out the competition so I looked at the Kubota's. When the Kubota salesman found out I had already shopped the JD's he flat out told me that pound for pound the Kubota's didn't hold a candle to the JD's. And he was right, at that time anyway, the weight comparison of the comparable JD's and Kubota's were not close. I know this isn't the only comparison but when it comes to how well things are built using the heavier stronger materials definitely has its advantages. Now back to your question concerning the 447 or 448...the base weight on the 447 is 1,098 lbs and the 448 is 1,640 lbs., that is a big difference. I also noticed that the digging depths are over a foot different, 7' 8" vs 8' 9". Here is some pricing / option info I posted in another thread concerning JD hoes. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...9028-buying-hoe-jd-990-jd-backhoe-pricing.pdf

There are more bucket options with the 448 vs. 447. The 448 can use the same bucket from a JD 49 backhoe. This includes a 40" bucket size. Can't do that with a 447.

What uses do have for the BH? That info would help posters give more relavant advice. No question the 448 has superior specs, but if you don't want / need them, they are not worth the extra $$$$.

Personally, I doubt I'd ever upgrade to a JD 4X20, need a 40" bucket or have to dig straight down to 105". But, if you need the extra digging power etc then maybe it's worth the $1,500.

Cinder, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. No ever complains about too much power or reach do they.

LOL On that basis I should have bought the used JD 8800 with 14' pusher blade. It was cheaper than my 3320.

Anyhow, that's how I got from looking at a X300 series riding tractor to a JD 3320 with toys. There will always something with a little "more." At some time it may make sense to just say "enough is already too much."

My point was that the OP never really suggested any intended uses, so it's difficult for any of use to make an informed recommendation.
