Which brand of riding mower to buy?

You are limited on selections in that price range, but here is what I bought. My dealer was $200 under the price shown on the website. I've only had it since 8/30/04, but I'm mowing every 4 or 5 days now and sure happy with it so far.

I can add (in case you not seen it here already) I got my Hustler Mini FasTrack for $2995 with 36" cut and 15hp Kohler. $500 under the MSRP. I was particularly impressed with the construction, the dealer and the great warranty. And am totaly impressed so far with the performance of it but have only got like 3 hours time on it.

At the bottom rung of the ladder is the riding mower .
As you climb the ladder you move up to

One point regardless of the brand is to make sure your selected mower will mow high or low enough for your needs. I have found that several mowers on the market will not cut very tall.

I'm getting ready to purchase the property I've been leasing for the past two years, and have the same question you've asked. I'm on 1.2 acres, but have about a half acre of grass to cut and will expand the lawn area to about 3/4 acres. I've been looking at everything from older riding mowers found on E-Bay, to everything else on the market. I'm in the pacific northwest and can't seem to find anything available. Unless I can find one locally, I'm going to buy a John Deere LT or XT serires tractor. I want the ability to put a front blade on it, and need something that can pull a small trailer to remove yard waste (we have a lot of trees and shurbs that need to be cleaned out all the time).

From what I'm hearing on the web, avoid the big box stores if your going to buy a brand name, like John Deere. You will get much better service from a local dealer. The main things you might want to consider are; can you have your unit serviced at your home or do you need to bring it somewhere? Is it easy to drive (some of the cheap models are pretty brutal, and you might want to go for a good push mower like a snapper or Honda); can you get parts easily?
