I know. That's what I meant. It's just that quite a few times I see requests for "which one should I get" in brand specific forums.

Mike . . . I drove from Chicago to several points in Florida and back over my 10 day vacation and was amazed at the number of tractor dealers I passed on the side roads. But what was simply dumbfounding to me was the quality differences that was VISIBLE FROM THE ROADSIDE between some of the dealerships. Some dealerships selling a brand were nothing more than a shack with a handful of tractors out front and no service area. Others were multi brand dealers with parts & service on site.

I might be drawn to buy an "off brand" tractor from a dealer if he had parts and service, but I would NEVER buy any brand of tractor from one of the makeshift used-auto sales coverted to lets make a quick buck unloading a few tractors type of a dealership.

My local NH dealer now also sells Branson. I would trust the Branson tractor becuase of the quality of the dealer. But if an old gas station all of a sudden started selling Branson and it was the dealership instead of the established quality/servicing dealer, then I would likely never give Branson a second thought.

I think dealerships are an important factor because the quality of the dealership and their integrity is the only thing that you have to count on when a problem arises.

I've said before I won't buy a Kioti. I like their looks and features, and they seem capable and might be a good value. But the closest dealership is well over an hour away. I have multiple big 3 dealers only minutes from my house, and each carries multiple brands, so simply because of convenience I eliminated Kioti. I realize my situation might be unique, but it is my situation. But as I have 2 excellent dealers only a few miles away, why would I want to travel a couple counties to even look at another brand that I might consider if I can get a good price on a tractor that is at least as feature laden and get parts and service only minutes away from home? Is convenience the only factor? Absolutely not. Price is always an issue. Capabilities are critical. But if 6 different machines will suit my needs, and if I can get 4 of the 6 from quality dealerhips that are close, then it is pretty easy to eliminate 2 machines from consideration if the dealers are "too far" away. And if any of the 6 machines that I narrow my choices down to come from a shabby quick-buck type dealership, I would cull them from the choices in a heart beat.

I purposely didn't say earlier the brand that billybob's tirestrucksntractors is selling, but, ironically, one is Branson... From your dealer, they'd be a smart choice; from a lesser outfit, oh well....

To20chris, Yep sometimes I get irritated to, but then I realize that I was in their shoes when I just jumped into the tractor buying mode, and found out I was about 50 years behind. Desperately I searched for info at the dealers through their brochures and then one day I came across this site on the internet. Looking back now my questions seem stupid but at the time I really did not know. Now I only get irritated when the same person ask about the same questions over and over again. If it sounds like a new post and the poster has over 50 post I check out the info that has already been given him and sometimes wonder if the only reason they are posting is for us to make up their mind for them. I think most of us at this point try to tell them nicely that they know as much as we do about a particular tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Anyone want to take a guess at how many posts this thread will eventually get? Yikes, do people post stuff like this for cars? "what kind of car should I get" Best bet, go to the local dealers, ask tons of questions, drive everything you can, find a good price, one that makes you happy when you go to bed, and buy it. Doesnt matter what color, how many people have it, etc. Your the one that has to sleep at night, so make sure the deal you get is the best deal for you.

The questions that bother me are the one that could have been answered if only the poster had gone to the MFG's website and looked at the specs. There is no need to make the members do your work for you when the information is there and maybe more accurate at the time. I find myself going to the websites quite often just to answer a question the poster could find on his own, and I don't mind helping, but come on, do some work! I know some people are not internet savvy, and that's okay if they're not aware of how to find sites, but they found this one, so they should be able to find the MFG sites. John

I believe, but not positive since I have the Google toolbar, that just typing something like "John Deere" in the address bar in IE will at minimum goto a search page with JD links.

Of course, there are some people that just can't seem to get it. I've explained e-mail and web to my mother and father in law several times in depth, and I know my B-I-L has also, yet they still just can't understand.

I don't disagree with you John. In fact, I've probably asked questions on this site that I KNEW I could have looked up myself. I suppose that part of it is the more "personal" feeling that you get when you get an answer from a real person. Also, frequently the answer to the question will include extra information that you won't find on the web site.

Sometimes when I'm resposnding to someone who I think probably could have looked up the information themself, I'll post a link to the site so that they can just click on it. That way, I'm being helpful by acknowledging the question, but I'm also directing them to use a little initiative on their own part.

I guess you might say that meets them half way. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( I bleed Blue(NH), Orange(Kubota), Green(JD), the other Green(Oliver), Red & Grey(Ventrac), and Yellow(Cub), and don't ask me which is the BEST of those, because it will probably depend on which one I just got done using. )

There's an exchange, I think from a musical, where the young woman is asked which of her suitors she loves most and she answers, "Why, which ever one I'm with, of course."
