I have a 5' Bush-Hog Razorback that as I recall I paid $800+/- for in 2001. It works fine and I just needed to weld the skid shoes at the front to the deck after I snagged something in reverse. It's rated to 1" diameter brush; but I've cut thicker vegetation just by going slow thanks to my HST.
I'm sure the Deere is a good unit; but I think the price reflects the green paint. I'd look at Woods/Frontier, Landpride and Bush-Hog. I assume Bush-Hog is still around as I heard they were having financial difficulty.
