Good to hear both of you are well satisfied, especially since I've been recommending them so strongly...

They take a bit of getting used to, but there's no comparison in how you're able to dig.

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I shoulda' done that! Temps here plummeted in mere hours yesterday. It was 39 last night. No frost here, but some in the western part of the State, and I hear SNOW is falling in WV and Pittsburgh, PA

You know, Barry, I shoulda' done that, too. I'll try harder next project. What I really need to get is a durable, cheap digital camera and keep it in the garage.

Digital cameras do not like cold or moisture (humidity). Might want to keep that in mind. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I live about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh and we got about 6 inches of that white stuff last night and today and its still coming down. I might have to try my new snow blade out.

I ordered two Markham tooth bars. One for my 4 in 1 bucket and one for Clint Blake's small bucket. They should be here in about three weeks. There was a two week delay to get teeth.

I bought the small bucket for my 425 and now regret it. The bucket (mine is toothless) has limited ability to excavate. It is for scooping and transporting loose materials. More volume is better.

Yesterday I spent two hours moving mulch. The large bucket would have carried twice as much cutting the time as well as the gas almost in half. Likewise when I use a bucket for hauling firewood to the house, or moving tools or potted plants, etc. A large bucket doesn't need to be loaded full when carrying heavy loads, one has the option. With a small bucket there is no option.

I have both size buckets. Each has its purpose for the job at hand. Like you mention if you have the large bucket and are carrying heavy loads you can load half full and you should be ok. I use the small bucket (in my case the 4n1) for digging and the large bucket for carrying. The large bucket is much wider and if it were to be used for digging I think you would put much stress on the lift arms because of the outside edges being far from the center point. The small bucket on the other hand (less width) will have less stress on the arms when digging as it is a more direct pressure. This is just my thinking as others may have different reasons.
Its nice to be able to move more with the larger bucket from a time stand point. The small bucket can take more hard abuse.

PJ, I agree with you assessment. I think the small bucket needs teeth to be effectively used for digging. That or the potato plow, stump grinder or trencher to break up the soil prior to using the bucket.
