Which Bush Hog for BX22??

I saw one of those KK XB rotary cutters this weekend. I compared it to a regular duty KK 48” cutter, you can see immediately that the hookup geometry is different. I don’t see any problems with it for a subcompact. It’s definitely light duty. My Kubota dealer carries Woods equipment. I was hoping he had one of the new Woods Estate Series 42” cutters but he did not. I did get a brochure, no price, so I don’t know how it compares to the KK.

I bought a Woods M40 40" cutter last spring, with slip clutch & chain guards. I did lower the mounting pins, as suggested for the BX 2200 in other posts.

The M40 set up was expensive ($1200+) compared to other brands, but this unit puts the "H" in heavy duty, for this size.
I do side jobs with my BX 2200, including brushhogging. The 40" size is a good match to the PTO horsepower availible, and you can get into places a 48" or larger unit cannot. You sometimes just need to make another pass.
Also check out blade changing, height adjustment and safety features, as you compare different units.

One consideration that I seldom see brought up when talking about brush hogs is that this is perhaps the one implement that will take the most beating on a compact tractor.
As with any tool that is used to it's limits, you quickly find out that you get what you pay for.
I am glad I spent the money for my M 40, and believe it will last me for many years.
