Which Camcorder to Buy

+1 on the Vixia. I purchased a refurbished at Comp USA and it has been a great camera for cheap $$$.

If you have a big photo shoot coming like at a wedding, get yourself four lithium batteries and you'll have plenty of power for the whole thing. We use and love lithium batteries for their up to 7x power. Unfortunately, they can't be recharged, but if you have a long shoot and don't want to change batteries, they are just the ticket.

Jim, according to Nikon the alkaline batteries will last for 330 shots and the lithium for 890 shots, so yep, you're right about the lithium. However, when I already have so many MiMH batteries and charger, I'd just stay with them. I don't anticipate any big photo shoots.

Well, I finished reading the manual today; 164 pages. I haven't used it much yet, but this camera will do everything I wanted and a lot more. Of course I've been accustomed to unedited photos being about 1280 x 960 pixels with a file size of about 400 KB. The default settings on this new camera make pictures of 4320 x 3240 pixels with a file size of nearly 6 MB. What a difference. And I was really surprised to find you can do some editing in the camera, including making smaller pictures. Of course I can also download them to the computer and edit them there.

If it keeps working like it started out, I can't imagine ever needing anything more.
