Looking at new saws and can't decide. Looking at 359 Huskey and the slightly higher priced Sthil 361. Thanks for your thoughts.

Without a doubt, buy the Stihl. I have the MS 310 and it is a great saw. I cut about 20 cords a year and it has never let me down. When I was looking for a saw I went to the logging areas that they are clear cutting and looked to see what the professional loggers use. All I saw were orange saws. That was enough for me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have never heard of that saw. I cut alot of wood but don't look at saws that much anymore. I pretty much found the one I was looking for when I bought mine.
I cut firewood with a buddy of mine that sells it for a living. All we have used since we started are Stihls. They have never let us down yet. maybe if they start to become undependable i might start looking into another brand.

I recently bought the MS361 and like it real well. I still like my old 041 and almost prefer to run it, but it doesn't have the anti-vibe nor the safety brake. So I will work the new one.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Husky either. I have used them. They didn't trip any 'wanna have' or 'gotta have' buttons. And I like the Stihl company. They work to support and hang on to good dealers. That is important to have someone continue in the business down the road.

I have the Stihl 361 and love it. Stihl is a good company that really backs the product they sell. The slightly higher priced Stihl is money well spent. Thats why I like the John Deere company, its hard to beat the company behind the product, you have good product support and a good product. The Stihl and John Deere company will be around for a long time.

I have a Shindaiwa 488 with 20" bar and it is a great saw....powerful, light weight, and easy to start. I also have Shindaiwa weed eater and hedge trimmer. They make excellent products.

Stihl.

Until someone can convince me otherwise, I'm a believer in their product line from top to bottom.

Stihl MS 260 saw, two weedeaters, a backpack blower and a smaller hand-held blower. All run good, start like a new one, and never let me down.

That said, I here Husky owners singing their praise too.

Some things you can get away with "cheap". Chainsaws aren't oneof those.

I have heard of them and even had a freind recomend one(from hearsay only).. They are apparentyl good saws.. The issue I had and drove me to buy the Husky over them was #1 They werent widly know(good or bad) #2 like mentioned before, you see the pros using primarily Husky or Stihl. #3 I can hardly pronounce Shindaiwa /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There are more good saws out there than just to main two. The Shindaiwa and Jonesred are two that come to mind. Unless you can sell one of those two considerably cheaper than Husky or Stihl, I think bussiness would be slow just riding on reputation. JMO, I'm not a big saw guy, but I did some research before buying mine.

I don't know how true this is but I heard the Stihl is built alittle better. If so, a Stihl might hold up better in the long run. It seems like both Stihl and Husky owners swear by both, sorta like the Ford-Chevy thing.
