Why didn't you just move the whole unit to the weld shop?
1. I could do it. (disassemble and reassemble as needed).

2(a). They would have had to do that work in order to straighten the bent rail*, reposition and weld it (3/8" Steel).

2(b)(i). I would have had to pay Shop Rates for their labor.

2(b)(ii). I work much, much, cheaper.

3. Would you believe it cost me $75 to have them remove the bent rail; straighten the rail, weld the rail back in place and paint it to match the other side?

Seriously, judging from the prices I see bandied about here I got the work done for less than a third the going price.

But, don't correct me if I'm wrong on this 'cause I'm so happy with the price I paid.:D

* Did you see the pics of the damage before?

I wish I could sue LOWES for the cost of repairing the damned thing. After all it was the 'perfect' manufacturing defect in that the nearly thirty inches of weld never penetrated anywhere along the first two feet or so and the surfaces were smooth, flat and, but for the rust, clean as a whistle
It's just a home owner grade log splitter. Granted it shouldnt fail that easy but not a big enough deal to get a lawyer.

Well, actually, one does not need a lawyer in Small Claims Court.
I once sued General Motors and A Chevy Dealer in Palm Beach County, FL appearing pro se and won. I did pay for a court reporter to get the attention of the judge.

In this case, I don't know where the documents (receipt, etc) might be and I'd likely have to delay the repairs to give Lowes an opportunity to repair it on their dime. Considering what I paid to repair it, suing was not worth the effort.

But, don't knock it, it works. I recommend everyone take a couple of courses in basic business law. I filed my own divorce papers - total cost was something like $33 and it worked just was well as a Lawyer-assisted divorce (so far, she's not come back!).

It's just a home owner grade log splitter.
Don't agree with that logic. A 'homeowner' log splitter should be held to as high a standard as one designed for professionals. Tons of force are applied, that thing (20# Anvil) could have struck my wife in the face, crushed her arm or hand.

It is difficult to tell how much PENETRATION the welder is achieving after the product is welded, painted pretty colors and sold to the 'homeowner' - but the welders know that pretty don't equate to penetration and Dirty Hands should have done quality checks enough to know that their boy didn't know how to weld properly.

At law, one has the right to expect a product is in all ways, suitable for intended use. If the defect is hidden, as in this case, the warranty extends to the date of the discovery of the defect.

Hopefully, the 'homeowner' will survive such discovery.

Personally I think it has serious design flaws so it can be made on the cheap..... Get it operational and sell it off and real quality made one....
