I don't like the "pop up dovetail" like some manufacturers have. I prefer the adjustable dovetail where the entire tail will level out greatly reducing the tail dragging coming out of fields!

Yep, tail dragging, had one that did that on the terraces in the hay field. Ordered this this Delta with a 4' pop up dovetail instead of 5' and no more tail dragging. :thumbsup:

Out of curiosity, how important do you feel a torque tube is on a gooseneck trailer? I keep hearing how important they are but I can't say that I have ever seen one on a semi trailer, so I would think that it would be more important for the frame of the trailer to be built stout. Thoughts?

Blowing one tire on single wheel tandems does not put more load on the surviving tire, as is the case for duals. Many trailers in the oil patch run 17.5 tires so they don't have to deal with the hassle of mud and rocks between the duals. Many hotshot outfits are running them, as well. When I was still working, I never saw a problem obtaining them, but supplies in your area may be different.

How can you say it doesn't put more weight? I'm talking singles here. If you have 14K on the axles that's 7K per axle, 3.5K per tire. If you blow on it now transfers it's weight to the tire on the same side.

I can say that because that's how it works. That's what the equalizer on Dexter suspension is designed to do. If a tire goes flat, it is still carrying the weight. It's just flat. The exception would be if you are running torsion axles. But, I don't know why you would on a big trailer unless it was strictly used on the highway.

The tractor the OP is wanting to haul would be fine on a tandem 7K axle trailer. The first thing I did when I bought the trailer I have now was to get rid of the ST tires and replace with LT Michelin XPS Rib tires. That will save a lot of blowouts. I don't have a need for a heavier trailer anymore, but would upgrade to 8K axles and 17.5 tires if I needed more capacity.

While I don't have a trailer with duel tires right now, I've pulled quite a few of them and can say the difference is significant in how well they pull. Just like going from a single axle to a double, going to duel tires is even more stable. There is nothing I hate more when pulling a trailer then having it wobble, or move from side to side from wind, or bad roads.

I think some trailers come wi th 4' tails instead of 5'. Iirc my FIL had a quality trailer that had a 4 foot tail. I didn't care for the trailer much, but I'll still take the adjustable tail to have a completely flat deck for hay or bulk material hauling and drop the tail for loading rolling loads. The pop up tails looked to be alot lighter in construction to me. I don't know that it matters a whole lot, just personal preference. When I get a bigger GN, it will be a tandem dual with a hydraulic tail.

I would love to have one with a hydraulic tail. Especially hauling hay. And sometimes when hauling my equipment, I have to get creative with the ramps! LUTT

I agree. Loading cars can be a creative endeavor! If we are really dreaming I want to get air ride too!!

Apparently no one has any knowledge or opinions on a torque tube, I was hoping for some info as I am probably going to order a trailer tomorrow, and I know very little about them, anyhow thank's for all the replies. Charlie.
