Just wondering from you all which kind of paint would be better for re-painting tractor implements.. Rustoleum from a spray can, Rustoleum from a bucket with a brush or "Implement paint" from the local Tractor Supply??

Well the best stuff to use is called POR-15 , its a bit more expensive but it should last almost forever. I've used it on many things including a backhoe I made. I've used the backhoe for 3 years and the paint is still on all surfaces of the bucket! How's that for tuff. It's worth the cost because you'll only have to do it once.

Tractor Supply Co. carries a pretty good selection of colors for tractors and implements. They also carry the hardener as well. It's probably not as good as POR but I have used it with no complaints.

Can also depend on the brand. In the case of JD, the stores carry a shade that matches their vintage stuff, but not the new. I know that NH has also changed shades. Then the dealer paint would be the best choice, and ususally holds up well, too.

What do you need to do for surface prep? Do you know if you can you paint over bad KingKutter yellow paint or will it just come off new paint and old? I wouldn't mind repainting my KK stuff, they have such bad paint on them.

The site says a clearcoat is needed if something will be exposed to UV. Do you use a clearcoat with it?

I'm probably an idiot, but I buy Rustoleum in the closest color I can find to what I want, mix it with a little paint thinner, and spray with a compressed air spray gun. I don't know how it'll hold up long term, but stuff I've done in the last year or two still looks good. I hate to see a rusty machine or implement.

The original formula POR-15 has no UV protectors in it but the the top coats do have them. I've used the Chassis Black on my BH with unbelievable results. The orginal POR-15 black will look flat black when exposed to the sun all day every day. You could use the clear to eliminate this problem or use one of the other top coats only.
