Which lawn mower should I get? About 1 acre, slightly bumpy, barren patches

so had to settle in 1999 for a box store mower. It served me well. It is not a commercial mower by any means. YMMV.

Well, in 1999 box store mowers were still made fairly decent. Not so much today IMO.

OP- I would look at cub cadet from a dealer not a box store.

Something that doesn't have the scrawny, flimsy, cheap, lightweight short lived K46 transmission or similar. A K57 and up is good.

For 1 acre get a cheap mower. Mine was a 2005 Huskee from Tractor Supply (18 hp B&S engine, 42" wide deck, $900).
I used it around my 10 acre place for 10 years and then sold it to the new owner for $100. Only maintenance was an oil change every year and clean the air filter several times a year. Had to replace the belt once and the battery once. Sharpened the blades three times. Kept it on a trickle charger. Used it to mow front and back yards and the small almond orchard (about 1.5 acres) and around the fence lines (1/4 mile) and the ditches (1/4 mile).

Good luck

Hello friends,

I hope everyone is doing well. Thank you for your replies.

I saw this Poulan Pro at a Sears Outlet for about $1700

Poulan Pro 54 in. 24 HP V-Twin Riding Mower
Model: 960420193

Poulan Pro - 96193 - 54 in. 24 HP V-Twin Riding Mower | Sears Outlet

Just to remind all of you, I am looking to get either a riding mower or a ZTR to complement my tractor, which I will eventually get. The tractor will have a brush hog attachment, and I may get the finishing attachment as well.

However, I want either a zero turn or a riding mower for the smaller areas, tighter areas, where the tractor cannot navigate through, or it is not practical to use in.

I have seen some ZTRs in the 5k range, which is my upper limit, but then, I also saw this Poulan Pro riding mower at Sears Outlet.

Do you know anything about this brand/mower? Will it last for 5-10years will regular maintenance? Is it a good buy in your opinion?

Thank you so much, I appreciate your help.

Doesn't matter the acre size as long as you avoid a tractor with the K46 or similar transmission .

Only mowing an acre any decent lower end mower would survive 10 years if well maintained. My mower probably sees more use in a week in the spring time them yours will get in a year.

I mow an acre at least once a week and sometimes help mow the common area of our neighborhood. I could not be happier with my Kubota ZD 18 which has served me well for over 10 years. I have not had single issue with it. Built like a tank, gets in tight places and there little three cylinder diesel engine is stingy on fuel. I plan on getting another ten years out of it.. Hope I have ten years left

I bought a Simplicity ZT-2500 ZTR this spring. It has front suspension, a fabricated 48" deck with striping rollers, a 25hp pro Briggs twin, ZT-2800 drive transmissions and electric lift mower deck. It's really a nice machine for the price at $3000 with a $400 rebate. My wife mostly is using it and it's very easy to operate for her. I've also found that it works great on my hills behind the house even if I just go up them as it's a pretty heavy machine at 850lbs +(wife) lol. Overall I'd highly recommend Simplicity as a choice from my experience with this ZTR.
