Several questions from a soon to be Yanmar buyer:

Which model is the most popular 1300d, 1401d, 1500d? By most popular I mean more of them owned and parts support. Any dealers out there who want to say which is their top selling model.

Also, do any of these three tractor models have a mechanical rear differential lock and in/out of 4x4 selector?

I have the model numbers down pretty well as far as size and most features, however I have not heard about the above. Also would a hyd. top link for a three point be supported with a loader on these three models?

TIA,

Trentay

I just bought my first Yanmar (yesterday, actually), and I spent about two months reading as many posts on the old yahoo site as I could, gleaning information on the smaller Yanmars, and this is the conclusion I arrived at. There is a formula to follow that goes like this.....WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WITH THE TRACTOR + HOW MUCH ACREAGE DO YOU NEED TO WORK + HOW MUCH MONEY CAN YOU SPEND = WHICH MODEL YOU CHOOSE. I chose the 1610D for the following reasons...to bush hog, finish mow, maintain a long gravel driveway, landscape, and add a front end loader to in the future to work on seven acres. With a budget of $5000 or less to work with to start, including some of the implements I needed, I also learned, after visiting three dealers, that I did not want a two cylinder, not because they were substandard, but simply because they make one hell of alot of racket when they run, but I've been told that they last a long, long time. I chose a three cylinder model. My next decision was 2wd or 4wd...quite a price difference, but if you want to add a fel or work on damp ground regularly, you will want the 4wd. If you can afford it, get 4wd, cause I learned from my readings, even if you don't need it now, you will want it later. Lastly, the powershift transmission was a feature I wanted...it allows shifting on the fly, and I was told that it would come in very handy when I do add a fel. Regarding parts availability, I have found that most importers have a good selection, but you might want to ask when making your final decision. You have come to the right place regarding Yannie questions. I'm a newbie, but the folks in this group are VERY helpful. Good luck, and I hope I was at least a little helpful. One last bit of advice, don't be in a hurry when you buy...be patient, visit several dealers, and take your time...you will find the model that is right for you.

I'd be interested in visiting a Yanmar dealer, but either I've been looking in the wrong place, or they don't exist in my part of the country /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif. I tried using a dealer locator on one of the websites, and only 3 states showed up as having Yanmar dealers /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif! What's going on /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif??

If you are using Yanmars webpage for a dealer directory you may not find many that are actually selling tractors. There are a few licenced Yanmar parts dealers that are importing used grey market machines. Most of the dealers are not parts dealers and you will have to find them via word of mouth or internet searching.

Oooohhhh /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif. If finding a dealer is that difficult, and since I've been researching equipment for about 1 year now and I haven't run across any Yanmar dealers in my area, who would do servicing on a Yanmar tractor if I were to consider buying one from someplace? Would that be a do-it-yourself deal? Would you just go around to dealers in the area until you found one that would be willing to work on it? I wouldn't want to get a piece of equipment without having some service support available.

Golfgar4,
I think Len Sheaffer is in Dixon Ill. which may be somewhat close to you

That would be great! One of my best friends travels to Dixon all the time, so it's not too far. I'll definitely check it out. Maybe have my friend do some "Sherlock Holming" for me /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. Thanks /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Wow, how lucky, if you have Len nearby, I think you have solved your "wheres the dealer" problem.
