Which Oil for a Case-IH DX-33

Getting ready to come up on my 50 hour service. The manual states to use 10W-30 or 15W-40, depending on temperature. But it doesn’t say what type. Am I supposed to run automotive type oil like Pennzoil or a diesel service type oil like Rotella?

messicks.com sells a oil and oil filter kit that has Case IH 15W-40 in it. Looks like it might be what to use.

DONT use "automotive" oil in it. If it isnt diesel rated..pass it by

That’s what I thought. But I didn’t see “Simon says” in the manual. Thought it might be a trick question. Rotella it is.

As the others said.. you must pay attention to oil application.. big difference in spark vs compression oils. Did your manual not give you a spec number?

I'm in florida.. and our NH/case dealer sells 15w40 oils..e tc.

The manual said what weight oil to use, but did not mention what service grade to use. That’s what confused me. My other tractor manuals were very specific about what grade to use. My Case-IH 685 manual is kinda confusing. In the temperature chart, it says multi viscosity oils not recommended. But has two part numbers for “Genuine Case-IH oil” that is approved for use in “your” tractor, and one is for a 15W-40. That’s why I’m asking now. In two months this town will be wiped out of any type of oil for diesels.

You can use any brand of 10W-30 oil thats DIESEL rated...trouble is..they are DA**ED hard to find!! Shell Rotella-T 10W-30 is...but the only place that would even order it in for me was NAPA...by the case...$2.95 a qt!!

I said the heck with it and went for Rotella SYN 5W-40 for $18.95 a gallon at TSC.
