Speaking as an ex-lawn guy with 15 years experience, let the accounts you already have, and the service available dictate the mower you buy. There is no one-size-fits-all mower.
You don't say what part of the country you're in. Big difference from down south (bahia and St Augustine) and up north (rye and bluegrass) as to what mower does well. A southern lawn full of yellow nutsedge will dull your blades in one pass. You can use a cheap 3-1/2 horse Murray to do a small lawn up north, but ankle high bahia down south will stop a 15 horse cold.
Keep your prices up or you'll go broke. As soon as you start your truck in the morning, you're spending money, so keep track of every nickel. Some of these homeowners will want you to pay them to do their lawn. Dump the slow pay ASAP.
