Which one to mow 1.5 to 2.0 ac

If you've got hills, I would not get a machine with a sealed, small oil capacity hydrostatic drive. It will not last. Best bang for your buck with a serviceable hydro that holds 6qts of oil would be a cub cadet 2544. The 44" deck gives an excellent cut and can take a beating.

L nicholson,

A zero turn is the only way to travel. Buy as wide a deck as your property configuration, and ultimately your wallet can handle. If you demo a rider and then a zero turn, you will be sold.

I would agree with this. While I am not 100% sold on ZTR's for all types of mowing, certainly even a residential level ZTR would really cut your mowing time down and would do a really good job. The only problem is that it cannot do much else, so be sure your 4120 can fit into all the areas you need for other purposes.

If you are going to do absolutely nothing else but mow, get a ztr that you can afford.
That said, I wouldn't trade my rider for anything.

I have a '96 JD 325 with 1780 hrs on it. 48" deck mows about 3 acres 2x/week, snowblower takes care of 1250' of driveway, not to mention the 7 trips per week to the manure pile with the cart, I spread 5- 10 wheeler loads of loam last year with it's front grader blade last year in inaccessible back yards.

It's all about versatility in my book

Thanks guys for the input!!

I managed to pull the plug on getting the JD 4120 for now, I had a large amount of unexpected medical bills come pouring in.

Let me ask this.... I'm like many where I want to have versatility. I'm interested in possibly planting a small garden and small deer plots and was thinking I MIGHT get away with a garden tractor to mow and then getting the attachments to help with the "green" needs. I understand I need to keep things in perspective and keep things on a small scale.

Does the pull behind tiller do it's job on a small scale??

got a ZTR last year for 4 acres and would never consider a rider again..cuts the mowing time in half..should have done it long ago. Doesn't make sense for me to spend one extra minute longer mowing than I have to....more free time to do more important things.
