yeah it's very hilly for sure. Do you think the industrial tires on the kubota will be an issue though?

The industrial tires would be the best if you plan on working on sharp objects. That being thorn apple limbs and trees as well as sharp pointy rocks as the rubber is thicker.

I can't say enough about ag tires and the higher lbs per square inch on the tread bars and the ability to penetrate to get traction.

I guess comparing the two specific tractors you are looking at, new Ags have got to be far better on the wet hills than 800hr old Ind. tires. I've never run Ind. tires to compare, or even seem them on a farm tractor with more than 50hp, so maybe that says something?
In my particular case with my tractor on my hill, I think new Ind. tires might not cut it for me. Eventually I'm planning another route around that steep spot as its going to get torn up and worse the more I drive on it.
I guess if you want to, or expect to, drive everywhere on your property that won't flip a tractor, get Ags, if you don't need to go everywhere then it may not matter which tires you get.

Im thinking 36 is kinda high,I think you could get into a new 6040 for around that price havent checked but I did just get a price on a new 8540-4x4-shuttle-cab-ldr and it was 42,500. But as a owner of a 7040 and 5040 if the tractor has been taking care of I wouldnt be worried about the hrs. I didnt catch on how many acres are pasture and how many are woods.I would say that 70hp isnt over kill unless you have mostly woods.I have a lease place thats 100acres 80%pasture and used the 5040 (this last time)with an 8ft shredder, mowed for 6 days straight and still didnt get all of it done...(just really depends on what type of grass/brush you have and how much you care about it looking). Some folks mow once a year and others like myself 2 to 3.

Hi Foreman - I think you're right about the price - being an 06 and all...but it's also pretty reasonable - there aren't many comparable used machines out there and this is in great shape - it's comin off a KOA campground, just used to move dirt around...so that being said that's why the dealer is asking that price...plus it has the cab...

it's about 65 acres low bush, scrub, grasses and apple trees. The rest is hardwood and accessing that is still to be sorted but we're cutting trails to get there. All of it is pretty rolling w/ about 3 ravines so we're trying to figure out how and where to cross but there are definitely points where it's doable...

You may want to look into taxes. Another member here just bought a new 7040 because it was cheaper once you added in the taxes than next model down Kubota with quite a bit less HP.

Another vote for the Kubota. Could you possibly negotiate in the Ag tires? I believe the Ag tires and R4 tires also have significantly different rim sizes thereby eliminating the possibility of swapping to Ag tires when the current ones need replacing.

I have two sets of wheels and tires for my 100 hp tractor. I used to change them depending on what job I'm doing. Now, unless I'm going through sloppy mud with standing water, I just leave the R4's on year round. I haven't had the R1's on in almost 2 years now. IMHO, the type of tire does make a difference, but it makes far more difference in smaller tractors. Like I said, unless I'm mud bogging, my R4's pull just fine and I've never had any problems and they have a much, much stronger carcass and are a far tougher tire.
