Yea, I need zero manuverability,, the areas are big,, and open,,

I LIKE the idea of slow,,,

I agree. I use the same logic. For a bushhog. Especially with neeer HST tractors where you can infinitely slow. 5 HP per ft rule is overrated

Hmmmm bspeedy,, the bat wing is nice,,,

BUT, I take a wooded trail to get to my daughters house to mow,,,

I think I would have to cut down some trees to be able to get the mower there,,,,

Only have to cut them down ONCE though.

Transport issues would be the only downside I can see to the larger mower. Loading one of those on a trailer would be quite difficult, as well.

If you do go batwing, I'd like to know how it works out. Like I said, I've been tempted.

Greetings,

I do not know if you have considered it but a smaller Vrisimo with the side slicers
and with rear flat proof caster wheels on the rear of of the flail mower would work
well for that mule.

I have not considered a flail,, I have never considered the cut my JD 390 flail gives as "lawn quality"
BUT,, if it warms up a little more,, I will hook the 390 to the tractor today!!

I have about an acre of 6" tall grass,, we will see if the 4105 can spin that beast,,,

Hopefully, that will give me some idea as to whether the tractor has enough powr for an 84" finish mower.

I have found two 84" finish mowers,, they are pretty similar in price,, and condition.
I just want to make sure I am not "horsepower challenged",,,

Well,, the 4105 did not even know the JD390 was back there!!

I was VERY surprised the tractor had THAT much power,,

At full hydro pedal, low range (~5.7 MPH) it just went right through grass I would consider too high to mow.

It DID enjoy the two 42 pound front end weights,, it never lifted the front wheels.

If I remember correctly you can add knife hanger straps and D rings to the three wings/air paddles that are welded to the 290/390 flail mower rotor to have lawn quality finish flail mower. They are assembled with the minimum number of knife sets and hangers when shipped unless a finish flail mower is ordered requiring more side slicers for a finish cut.

This is what the cutters look like on my JD 390 right now,,

I think for the purchase price of $1,100,, I would rather risk buying a used Woods RFM,,
rather than buying knives for the flail,, and all the work to change them..

Since the JD dealer is on the way to where the RFM is,, I may stop, and ask the price of the flail replacements,,

Some 12' batwing mowers recommend 35 HP, so I think one would work for you. Just really depends on what you are looking for.
