gharms,

Have the dealer hook up the mower to verify that there are no problems with the unit as Rmart suggested. If the dealer is not ready to do that then he has answered your concerns and the price is mute.

I really like the idea of the dealer trying out the mower when we look at it. I will ask him to do that! This forum is full of good ideas and knowledge!

gharms,

All mowers that have heavy usage - slicing and dicing small saplings - will eventually lose the oil seals on the out put shafts. Tall grass can and does wrap around these shafts above the stump jumper and adds stress on the seals. Just the nature of the machines. Ask the dealer how often these seals are replaced by the shop mechanics. Better yet talk to the shop mechanics without the dealer standing by. Lots of info available from these sources.

I try to buy the best, heaviest duty equipment for my needs and never regretted it, I would go with the bigger one. I have been using an RCR2672 for several years as I have a ot of brush and it has held up very well. I would recommend chains on the front and back, I got mine with them only on the front and later put them on the back; much better.

Have you had any trouble with the coupling at the tractor end of the driveshaft? I had the 3 ball coupling on a PHD and after it got dirty once, it was a beeatch to disconnect from the tractor. Swore I'd never have another one, but the RCR1872 I'm looking at has that same coupler as yours. Advice?

My tractor has 38hp PTO, and I just picked up a used medium duty Rhino for $500...aside from faded paint, it's totally solid. I haven't done any heavy cutting with it yet, but it seems fine for the typical brush I'll be cutting. I think you'd be fine with a 6' wide medium duty unit.

We have never had any issues with ours, we also have a 4' Land Pride for the BX and both have been trouble free.

Finally an update here: I decided to go with the used Woods BB72X. The dealer was nice enough to hook it up and run it for us, and it seemed decent. I also was able to haggle 150$ further down; got it for 850$. We will get it delivered early this week.
