i've got a 1978 John Deere 205 cutter. it's 5' wide and has been indestructible in 28 years! it's compariable to the current JD LX 5(used for light mowing), and maybe that's what makes them different. all I can tell you is mine has cut everything from weeds, small trees and various bushes, to cut corn fields all day long. does a great job. i'm acctually thinking twice about trading it in when i go to trade in my tractor on a new one because its been so good for me and i'm scared to get a new one that wont hold up as well.

I wouldn't have anything except a Woods. For no other reason than the way the blades go on and off. They use a key lock system. All you need to change blades is a 3/8" ratchet and a 11/16" socket. You don't have to have a huge socket and cheater bar. You can change both blades in 7-8 minutes and most of that time is blocking the mower up to be safe and getting the tools out.

Hey now.. you may have just lured another customer to woods. If they keep that trend up when i need another mower.. that will easilly be worth a few hundred dollars premium price in my book. I had to upgrade to 3/4" socket / breaker bar set when i moved past a 5' mower.. before then the 1/2" set did most everything...

Boy, you can say that again!! I had an old "Service" brush hog with my old Ford 3000 and it was awesome!!! And just as dangerous as it was awesome but it'd cut down trees and tear up jack like nothin you've ever seen. People just absolutely couldn't believe how destructive that old Service was and it was built like a tank!!! I bought a new Rhino (because the dealer told me that was the old Service Co.) when I purchased my new tractor and although it's much safer with chain guards and built with pretty thick steel, it's a wimp compared to my old brushhog......I still have my old one, the 3-point part is just kinda wore out. I'm takin it to the farm soon and will turn the new mig welder loose on it when i get time and see what i can come up with.

It just seems like when i go over small trees with the new one it just "plays" with it and even gets it hung up over the top of the blades in fact......ticks me off when that happens.....uuuuuugggggg..........it just don't even sound dangerous back there like my old brush hog did!!! ahaha
