Which shredder for my 2040?

Thanks for the info guys. Yalls experience and advice with this stuff is invaluable! I'm thinking I'll stick to a rotary cutter since it's what I know,and I'm not crazy about the idea of belts with the flail mower. I may try one later though.

I found some specs on the 6' galvanized cutters. They have different duty models but they all have the heavy gauge deck. One has a 48hp rated gear box with shear pin and it weighs a little over 700lbs. The next model has a 65hp gear box with clutch and weighs 850lbs. Both of these are 6' models. I would think my tractor could handle either of these right? They have a heavier model but I don't see needing any more than what these can do. I think this tractor weighs just shy of 5000lbs, do you think I will need front weights with one of those cutters? Again thanks for the help! I'll probably go drool on some new implements after work today

I would go with the 65hp slip clutch cutter and try to find a few suitcase weights for the front, you will need them sooner or later. Look around for some used weights, these are available from time to time just have to be persistent.

I cant agree with a 850 lb cuttter on a 2040, your gona need a pile a weights on the front , It will handle better with the lighter one, especially turning up hill, Eric

I have a Modern 5' Highway Special that is over 30 years old. They are solid cutters.

FWIW, I think your tractor will handle the 6' cutter. I'm running my 5' on a Ford 2600 (32hp PTO) that is several hundred pounds lighter than your 2040.
