The X500 is the orphan child of the X series.

Which brings up another pet peeve of mine with Deere is that they offer too dam many models in the D and X series tractors. It's ridiculous.

Honda used to offer a DX, a LX, and an EX series for their cars. Now it's just LX and EX. The DX was a stripped model that few people bought. They make it simple to choose which level of equipment you want on your car.

Granted a lawn/garden tractor is not a car; but come on, does Deere really need to offer that many models in each series? How about 2 or 3 in each series tops?

Well you certainly did your homework and thought it through so I can't call you an impulse buyer...:laughing::laughing:

Pic's, we like pictures!!!

How did you find your slightly used tractor? Craigslist, dealer,???? It is hard to find these kinds of deals.

BTW, Congrats! Do you have a place to park it out of the cold for all those cold morning starts?

Apologies for the late reply...your purchase is made and we'll see pictures soon!

I had a X585 (4x4 gas) for almost 5 years and a few hunderd hours on it. I recently purchased it's replacement, the X748. I kept my quick hitch/blade/blower. The kawi was a very strong engine and had virtually no problems with it. I kept it in my shop that was heated just above freezing, so starting in the winter was no problem. There few a few times when I'd stop plowing for a few hours and leave the 585 outside in the -30 cold. It would always fire up first crank. The EFI was excellent.

I now have the 748 and the diesel is fine. More power in the foot high grass etc. I'm looking forward to using the blower in deep snow (actually I'm not as it is finally summer here ;-)).

The resale value of the 585 was great and I dont regret for a moment to have had the 585, nor the move to diesel and HDAP tires.

Enjoy the purchase!

I agree totally with the above post, so what did I buy? Well, I purchased a used X744 with a 62 inch deck. I know it's overkill, but with the 62" deck, it has less than 70 hours on it. The 62" deck will cut 6 inch radius, 52" will cut 12 inch radius and the 48 will cut a 13 inch radius. I really am not looking that hard at the mowing aspect, but the snow removal. I can use it to plow some of my neighbors driveways.
Why the X744?
1) X700 have a higher resale value, especially the diesel
2) Diesel uses less fuel and the fuel tank is 6.5 gallons vs the 5 gallon on the gas
3) Diesels motors last longer, at 1000 hours look at rebuilding the gas motor
4) Tractor weighs more which is beneficial with snow removal and the diesels torque will be helpful.
5) It is a direct drive to the mower deck, granted the deck itself is belt driven
6) It's hydraulic all the way
7) It has a better frame, the X500 series shares same frame as the X300, so you are at the upper limits
8) Much nicer Driver Controls
9) I will have it forever, not need to even think about upgrading at 60 years of age
10) It's a Boy Toy and a nice one.

So, am I partially insane, maybe, but happy with the decision.

PS: I will not have it for awhile since I'm having it shipped in from a Dealer in the Midwest. I will report then on my likes and dislikes.

Congrats on the X744! I really love my Deere X744 with 48" Deck! Bought mine used as well last June. Mines an 07 with 844 hrs on it now, bought it with 692 hrs. Really love it, and will have it a long time.

Take Care Jason B

My 2010 X744 with 59 hours arrived today, I love the AWS and the 62 inch deck is really nice getting around my 32 trees. The diesel is a]lot quieter than I expected. I'm glad I purchased what I really wanted rather than always regretting not doing so. If I could figure out the picture thing, I would post a picture, lol, not that computer literate.
