other than some light logging to keep the fireplace going, i wont be doing much of anything in the woods with the tractor. (i save that area for hunting). at this point i have done any hauling of wood with my 4 wheeler/trailer which works ok.

the area that i plan on cutting is definitely not flat. this is why i didnt want to try stepping up to the b7510 etc since they are skinnier with a higher center of gravity.

I have a BX2200, and my first thought was that you might like the New Holland TC series better than the BX series, considering that you have all those woods to deal with.

The BX is a good mower, and it is also not as poor in ground clearance, with the mower off, as it sounds like it is if you read the specs. The 6.4 inches more/less of ground clearance is under the axles, under the frame it measures about 12 inches. Still, I think the TC18, or the slightly larger blue tractors, have more ground clearance.

I have a larger tractor also, a B2910. I would vote for a larger tractor but that costs money you don't have to spend, so we can forget that suggestion.

I will third or forth the idea of looking at larger tractors other than the big three [or four]. No doubt you will get more bang for the buck there, and members here have reported positively about their experiences with them.

The reason I bought the BX myself, rather than a small TC series, was that I wanted something small. I have the bigger tractor for bigger things. The BX would be a good grass cutter, would pull things around for me, and would be a nice fit between my old MTD garden tractor [that is on its last leg] and the B2910, which is the work horse here.

I really like the small TC series NH tractors. They look like tractors! The BX really is kind of like someone else said, a garden tractor on steriods. They both shine for what they are...

If you get the small tractor first, you can always add a second, larger tractor later...When you get the house paid off? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hope this ramble adds something... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi, I find myself in the same spot, except that I thought I wanted more lawn when we built. So I bought a $6,000.00 Kubota lawn tractor. Suspension, liquid cooled, power steering etc.. The more lawn I mow the less I want. And I definately overbought for my 1/2 hour a week of mowing. 3 years later I only have 105 hours on it and am looking to trade it in on a JD110 and a chore tractor like the 4210 with a loader. I have also looked at the Cub 7260 but am worried that the resale wont be the same.
Quality differences? Haven't a clue. Parts availability may be an issue as well since the cub is made Korea (right?). I like the loader on the cub because it can lift 15" higher than the JD and I will be getting a dump truck in the fall to help deliver firewood. It also has an easy access from both sides. Eventually I plan on getting a yellow backhoe (comm. machine) for the heavy lifting and road building needs so the chore tractor doesn't need to be any more than a 30 hp. I don't want to overbuy again. If anyone wants to suggest an opinion or a different tractor I would love the input. Thanks in advance.

Why not go for the BX23 so you would have the advantage of the backhoe for landscape changes?

good morning....
if you can, take a look at the CENTURY....nice unit and most of their dealer are committed to good service and parts availability. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif....
i have looked at most all the CUTs under 40 hp and the CENTURY is about the cleanest unit out there....
very easy to operate and the fit and finish is excellent /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
other units are good units and i agree with most of the posters....the dealer makes a big impact on YOU being pleased with your purchase, after all, your are going to keep it for years /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
very good pricing also /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

good luck,

Hi John, welcome! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Do yourself a favor - check out www.POWER-TRAC.COM !

Tractor, features, attachments, and price are unbeatable for a homeowner/landscaper!

25hp 4WD PT-425 Tractor with 800# FEL = $9,000.
45" Bucket = $300.
60" Mower Deck (front mount) = $1,200.
9" MiniHoe (FEL backhoe) = $900.
Turf Tires = Standard.

For $11,400 you have a setup to tackle all the jobs you described! And Power Trac has more attachments for more jobs than you can think of! For your wooded acres try: 48" Brush Cutter = $900; 18" Stump Grinder = $900; Forks = $300; etc, etc, etc!!!

OR, you could buy a "cheap" tractor manufactured by Jinma in China and sold by www.NORTHERNTOOL.COM for ONLY:
25hp 4WD Tractor = $8,000.
FEL with 48" Bucket = $3,000.

For only $11,000 you can pick up things.

How about a 13" Backhoe? ADD just $5,300!

Want Turf Tires? ADD just $1,100!

Need a Mower or other attachments? Sorry, NT doesn't sell those, but others do have a few for a few thousand $ or so.

Don't forget the $60 Oil Filter!

Be careful of the NT fiberglass hood and fenders. They won't take the abuse that the Power Trac 3/16" to 3/8" steel plate unibody will!

Better get a HD 4,000# Trailer to move that NT Tractor around. (The PT-425 weighs 1500# with FEL Bucket, and will load itself with ramps into the bed of a pickup truck!)

I won't mention that the NT is built in China and the PT-425 is built in Virginia, USA!

/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Guess those "cheap" Chinese tractors aren't so cheap after all!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

PS: If you want a popular name-brand tractor (imported, with USA name-brand decals), just add several thousand $ to the NT prices!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Maybe your wife would like to help you mow those 3-4 acres!

It's easy with the PT-425 mower out in front: Climb on - the seat height is only 28"; steering wheel (Turning Radius - 37"); right pedal - forward 0-8mph; left pedal - reverse 0-8mph; lift both feet, it stops (always in full-time 4WD)! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

With the NT tractor's rear mount mower she has a choice of steering wheel (Turning Radius is 122" using split brakes), manual clutch, 3 speed plus reverse transmission (NOT synchromesh), shuttle shift, hi/low range, creeper range, part-time 4WD lock, differential lock, split brakes, and throttle!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

What kind of mowers have you been pricing?

I think the Power Trac's are neat set ups but I don't think that they are a substitute for the the true tractor format.

Weight is your friend when you are trying to get more than mowing done. Weigh is really good when you are pulling a plow, landscape box or trying to dig with a loader.

Like the one I saw Sunday in front of NT??? The one with the pile of absorbent underneath soaked with the fluids dripping out of the new tractor?

No thanks.
