Craftsman are not made by MTD, they are made by AYP..American Yard Products. The rers i think might be MTD, but not sure on that. The craftsman mowers have improved a lot the last few years. I bought a DLT3000 this spring with a Honda motor and i love it.

Sears uses multiple contractor to make their products. Some of their drills and routers are made by Ryobi. Some of their automotive electronics are made Schlumberger (sp?). I don't know who makes their paint, but I seriously doubt they have their own paint factory.
Some of their tractors, depending on the year, were made by MTD.
My Craftsman tractor at work is an MTD tractor.

If the first 3 digits of the model number begin with 219,247 it is made by MTD. 917= AYP
